I tried using the Layer Image Editor for the make up and lips, and it seems to work really well, with the slight drawback of a little longer loading time. This could be an answer to recent game's trend of using crazy number of layered textures, and something to explore when I work on some of the newer games.
This model can also be considered a little test as to how much impact that loading time actual cost, to better determine if this is worth experimenting with.
