I honestly want there to be some kind of end of the year exhibition match or something. Where Rei gets to pick his opponent and ends up calling Selleck and his merry minions for a 5 on 1 rematch. With all the teachers being like "That goes against every rule we stand for. Sure why not?"

I absolutely love the fact that the instructor read the situation correctly. I love how she handled it. And truthfully I think Logan did show restraint a lot of restraint he is growing immensely. I don't think he would have handled that the same way before . Definitely would have been involved physical injury as opposed to just destruction of property. And I think that that's the reason he didn't get punished more severely. I also like that this shows another person who's in Captain Dents corner. She knew something was going to go down the second they stepped into that classroom and forewarned the teacher beforehand.

It would be very interesting to see the cadets go up against the archons in a simulated combat experience. After all, isn’t that what these cadets are being trained to fight? I think the idea in fire and song of having neutral enemies in the various simulations, it’s actually a good one. Just my opinion.

I took some time to think about it and here’s what I love about this chapter. The protagonists get to fight back. One of the tropes I hate in most books/movies is that the protagonist ALWAYS has to take the high road otherwise the boss/media/teachers/peers alienate them. Rei and team just have to take it while Selleck, Sidorov, Reed, other students take it out on them. The instructors letting the team take it as far as the others are taking it just seems fair. They’re soldiers not saints. Let them fight it out. Otherwise it’s just antagonist plot armor to drag out the storylines. Thanks for flipping this on its head!

Thank you for the sneak peak at this chapter, it was very enjoyable to read I enjoy the way you are showing growth in Logan, with the base personality being shown as well as the continued growth and control that is being made by this character. To me this is the most organic growth of any in the main character group. I would like to see, either at the beginning of this chapter or in the future, the impact and growth of Catchwick's evolution. These explorations of growth are one of the things I believe you incredibly well. I always look forward to the chapters dedicated to the tactics and strategies of the team and how they all work together Again thanks for the rough chapter and look forward to the next

It would have been cool for catchers shard to have somehow conveyed not just danger but location…. So far all (All?) the shards have been seen to do is convey danger (Viv and catcher) and enhance growth. Which is great, don’t get me wrong! But some form of communication (telepathy!) would be … we’ll talk about team building!

I love Samsus hitting Selleck from the soldier perspective. It gives such a “bigger picture” view of the mess he’s creating and hands him a sign of “get your shit together”….though I doubt the idiot takes it

Really liked that we had a moment of the teachers taking a moment to highlight that while they do let some stuff slide that their are very clear limits while also pointing out that ultimately they are a military academy training them to fight. So stunts like what Selleck pulled are the kind of thing that get either themselves or other people killed. Kind of highlights why it's also not surprising to learn that MIND has been more lax with the third test of late because you see some of these people with some issue that you'd think would qualify them for rejection.

I can see how the school would allow some antagonistic behavior that would allow beneficial development of character... But when pushed too far that can become detrimental to development. Deep down in my soul I think Samsus would have liked to have taken Logan's position to take her frustrations out on Selleck. By not brigging him and only making him pay for the desks... perfect. And letting Selleck know that they know what kind of character he is.... Delicious. Excellent writing as always Bryce thank you! 🙂

I love seeing a story where the teachers are 100% biased but they have every reason to be. It always bothers me when the antagonist gets away simply due to no proof or they’re the top dog. Seeing Selleck get publicly embarrassed is soooo cathartic

Great stuff. Might I suggest a slight alteration to Samsus’ speech, instead of “rats and backstabbers” use “rats and blue falcons” which is a military term for buddy fucker, seems pretty fitting
