Sylvie's Technique Vlog - Training The Lead Side Only
🕑 Added 2021-05-28 04:55:12 +0000 UTCSometimes I'm working on something that I've just learned from a Legend or Kru in the Muay Thai Library, sometimes I am running up against something that is frustrating me in the gym, and sometimes I'm forced into a situation due to injury. I find injuries quite beneficial, in the long run, since you can usually train around them. It happens that one of the aspects of Muay Thai that first drew me to it was that the strikes are meant to replace weapons that might be lost during a battle; maintaining that ethic means not throwing in the towel when one of your weapons gets taken off-line, but rather truly honoring the "art of 8 limbs" approach to resourcefulness. So, when I broke the knuckles in my right hand, I was literally forced to take it out of my training and only throw elbows on that side and punches with my left hand, but in this process I decided to bring more purpose to the situation and strengthen my entire front-side arsenal and strategy. I've actually really come to believe in my left side more than ever before, truly benefitting from the situation rather than just making-do. So, this Technique Vlog is about maybe taking that approach and purposeful focus with intention rather than just out of necessity.
One thing to note, which I do talk about in the video, is that this is not training for ambidextrousness, or switching your stance to make your non-dominant into the power side. Rather, this is staying in your stance and focusing on one side, in this case the front side which is usually non-dominant in most people, and finding ways to explore how it connects to itself and flows with itself, rather than the symmetrical "left, right, up, down" that also has its merits. For Thai scoring, this front side is greatly important if your facing an opponent with the same stance as you.

No, there is no footage, no photos. It's a shame, even figjters from 30 years ago don't have much other than newsoaoer clippings.

You brought up Master K in this vlog and I'm curious if there is film of his fights? And if you will do a training video with him in the future, now that you have 10 more years of experience? Would Master K ever travel back to Tailand and you guys do a video at his old gym in Thailand where he trained from? Maybe you have all this info somewhere that I haven't found, but was just wondering.
