The Nyctocosm: Realm of Mystics Part One
🕑 Added 2022-10-31 07:09:00 +0000 UTCPart One of the Realm of Mystics Update is released to Patrons today! This post will become accessible to the public for free on November 30th.
I have transitioned from summer break to being back at school now, so that means less time, less energy. However, I have since acquired a few new team members, who will be helping me out in development! Their work will soon be added in near future updates.
For Realm of Mystics Part One, I have endeavored to create a much more robust and dynamic magic system. I have completely revamped the underlying magic framework, which will pave the way for future magic gameplay. This update adds nine new magic spells, with many more planned and in development!
The magic system plays out like before. Create a circle of lit candles, then stand in the middle and right click with a soul bottle to cast a spell plane. Once the spell plane is summoned, drop specific items in the middle to cast specific spells.
The new spells are:
- ABHORRENCE: A nightmare-based attack spell that shoots a tendril of fear at your enemy. Cast using coal.
- FORBIDDANCE: A dissonance-type counterspell that shoots a projectile that can cancel any spell being currently cast, and any spell projectile or object. Cast using ghast tear.
- GRAVITANCE: A void-type attack spell that shoots a black hole at your enemies, pulling them in and dealing damage. Cast using crying obsidian.
- SUBSISTENCE: A radiance-based heal spell that will heal and replenish the caster's hunger. Cast using apple.
- REFLECTANCE: A resonance-based shield spell that shields against reflectable magic attacks (such as abhorrence and gravitance). Cast using iron ingot.
- SUBMERGENCE: A dream+void-type area-of-effect spell that pulls your enemies underground to suffocate. Cast using soul sand.
- ADAMANCE: A void-based spell that locks your character in place on the center of the spell plane, preventing other spells like gravitance from pulling you out. Cast using cobblestone.
- INCANDESCENCE: A dissonance+radiance-based spell that shoots a fire bolt at your enemy. Cast using gunpowder.
- RESISTANCE: A radiance-based spell that gives the caster temporary damage and knockback resistance. Cast using steak.
This update also adds a new item: the Planar Circlet. Unfortunately, the survival source (ooh, secret) for obtaining the Circlet hasn't been added yet, so the only way to get it is to use this command: "/function spells:ring/give". The purpose of the Circlet is to be able to cast spell planes without having to use any candles.
To use the Circlet, put it in your offhand, then sneak and right click with it. That will cast a spell plane at your feet. Sneak and right click again to fizzle the spell plane. The Circlet requires souls, and will automatically collect nearby souls if it is in your offhand.
Along with these additions, I've also made some bug fixes. Here is the gist of them:
- Spawn point particles fixed
- Multiple glass bottles turning into one soul bottle fixed
- New serpent death sound effect
- Default minecraft music doesn't play in Nyctocosm anymore
- Fixed multiple spell planes being able to be spawned
- Serpent insta-dying fixed
- Portal implosions are no longer named "Creeper"
- Evanescence spell takes you to your actual spawn point
- Spell plane fizzles only when you leave the circle completely
- Seelic Scythe teleports in any direction and through blocks
- All attacks can damage players
- Scythe can reap player souls
More will come soon, including structures, lore, and biomes! Sorry if this update didn't seem all that big, I am working on school, life, and Minecraft at the same time now and that means I am not working at the pace I did over the summer. With my new team, I hope things will accelerate!
I will be working on making a tutorial video for these things soon, so it's easier to understand.
Please ask if you have any questions, I will answer them as soon as I can. And please make sure to leave suggestions! With all of you trying things out and testing edge cases, it will help a lot with development and improvements!

Thanks!
for now the only way is to go near it and run "/function nyctocosm:portal/remove" and that will deactivate the nearest portal
How do you disable the portal?
Yeah, I'm always working on optimizations for the pack. It is a pretty large and involved pack, so a decent performance hit is to be expected with it on lower-end machines.
in single player there is a lot of lag with the pack in general but its mostly in the new dimension. are there plans to fix it???
thanks alot
use /function nyctocosm:portal/remove
how do you close the portal
