Thank you! Mike feels death incoming, but these days it's a relatively mild sensation compared to the nearly-incapacitating pain he used to have. The lack of pangs while Galen is dying can be put down to a combination of two factors - first, that he was distracted by various deaths going on around him, near and far, and second that Galen simply takes a long, long time to kill. I really enjoyed writing the fight itself, since it was the first time we've seen a large-scale fight with many different ensouled participating. Keeping it tethered to Mike was challenging, since it's tempting to just get lost in the battle details - but important! I'm feeling much better now, thanks :D

Really interesting conclusion. I'm interested by Michael's death pangs. Obviously, like Stanza, it has a hint of premonition about it. In this chapter, (like me) Michael though we were about to watch Galen die, but I don't think that he got the usual feeling of oncoming death. The fight itself was very tense. I loved seeing the adaptations that they have to fighting Calors / Smoke derivatives. I also enjoyed the underscoring at the end of Michael's emotional response to this. With everything that went off, it wasn't victory at the winning but at the saving of lives. I like seeing this core character trait being tweaked, and it's always a good way during these high tension bits to pull me back into sync with Michael's PoV. I think getting us on board with Michael's objectives and empathy is one of the greatest strengths of this story (in a story filled with strengths). Thanks for chapter. Hope you're feeling better, also.

They were named in chapter 59, initially, back when they were first ordered to go with him.

Gardor

Were his guards given names before this?

Wyv

The first line in that was beautiful, if only he could held it together long enough to finish strongly

TMarkos

It's useful but high-risk - Mike doesn't know if there's a maximum amount of shells he can safely handle, for example. One missed shell could kill him.

Mani

with good enough range and control, seems like stanza should make enemy artillery useless and allied artillery far more potent. Definitely seems like a smart thing to abuse

Thank you, I have a lot of fun composing them! This chapter was maybe not some of Mike's finest work but he was under stress...

TMarkos

Thank you! I'm always happy when I get to sneak them into a chapter.

The Rhymes are so cool.

Deinos

Damn nice chappy! Always love the rhymes.

TMarkos

Always has been! Controlling the variability of an inherently-variable process is one of the easier things for a soul like his. There's a reason why the classic example of a bonifex he always references is "cheating at dice."

Alexandria Clarke

Controlling enemy artillery was not what I was expecting to see. Michael's strength is through the roof
