The Year we went to the Nude Beach. A LOT!
🕑 Added 2025-01-06 07:00:09 +0000 UTC
It's that time of the year… the days are short and cold and it's not really the best time to be a naturist. Unless you live in the southern hemisphere, then your birthday suit and your Christmas costume are the same thing. For the last two years, we have been fortunate to celebrate the end of the year right there, under the warm summer sun. This year we were in Europe but in the lovely naturist resort Costa Natura. Not particularly with Australian weather but at least we could sunbathe in the nude a couple of hours per day.
This is also the time of the year when we like to reflect on what's behind us. What happened? What did we do well or wrong? Most importantly: If our lives were a book, which chapter would 2024 have been?
The Destination Clothes Free Chapter
It's about 3 years since we published our first actual vlog on YouTube. We just watched it again and are not sure whether we found it funny or embarrassing. But it has to exist because it was the start of a long learning curve. We like to think that we've grown a lot as video makers and very much hope that you too can see a big difference with what we're publishing today.
Our vlog grew in different directions and we tried a lot of things. Some were more successful than others, but it quickly became clear that it was hard for us to combine information with entertainment. People who loved to follow our travels thought that the resort tours we did were boring and people who were looking for information about resorts skipped through all the personal stuff. So we decided to split up our videos. Our Nick & Lins channel would be our story and you, as a viewer, would be our virtual travel buddy. The new Destination Clothes Free channel would then contain the resort tours. Nothing more, nothing less.
The Nick & Lins channel was our absolute priority and we stuck to posting a new video every single week. But this schedule became a liability. It was impossible to create a new video about naturist travelling every single week, so we found ourselves making videos we didn't really want to make, that often had nothing to do with naturism, just to have a video ready. On the other hand, our Destination Clothes Free videos gained popularity but we just didn't have the time to film and edit them.
So last year, we decided to change focus. Instead of a weekly Nick and Lins video and now and then a Destination Clothes Free one, we started publishing on both channels bi-weekly. Looking back, it was one of the best choices we could make. We haven't filmed a Nick & Lins video we didn't really want to film ever since, and those of you who just want information about places now get two dedicated videos per month.
The Scarlet chapter
Ever since we rented a van for the first time in the Canary Islands, back in 2022, we knew that one day, we would own one. We just didn't know when because there were two big problems. One was that we don't know a thing about vans (or cars or mechanics in general), so we're the perfect people to rip off and sell crap to. The other problem was that we could not afford to buy a new van.
Both problems were solved when friends of ours bought a new house. During the last several years they had carefully been building their own van, but now they knew that they wouldn't be travelling much in the years to come. This gave us the opportunity to buy a second-hand van from people we trust and who would not rip us off. We bought their van without ever seeing it in real life. And we named her Scarlet, there is a story behind the name too and we're happy to tell you over wine at a naturist resort.
Scarlet is much more than wheels and a bed, she is a ticket to freedom. Before, our itinerary was often determined by the price of travel and accommodation, now we suddenly have more opportunities because we don't need to rent a car anymore and always have a place to sleep, which is partly what brought us to the UK in 2024.
The Nude Beach Chapter
Some people say that everything happens for a reason. We wouldn't go that far, but the connection between action and reaction is often undeniable. One of the first videos that really took off on Destination Clothes Free was a guide to the nude beaches of Florida. When we tried that blueprint again with the nude beaches of Saint Martin, it was again a hit.
Filming nude beaches has always been very time-consuming and was often expensive because we needed to rent a car and find strategically located accommodations. Scarlet provided the answer. After years of neglecting nude beaches mostly out of necessity, we noticed that we refound a love for the beach.
Last April, we published a video summarising our journey to every continent. In little over a year, we had been to 42 nude beaches. The first month we had Scarlet we already beat that number and in the months that followed, we've set foot on many more nude beaches. And we absolutely loved it.
The next Chapter
This brings us back to Costa Natura. Scarlet is here too, but she's in the parking lot for a couple of days. When the nights are long and cold, she's not always the best companion. So we really enjoy staying in a warm apartment for some days in between. Somewhere with a cosy couch where we can think about what the next chapter of our lives will be.
This is hard to put a finger on, because neither the nude beaches, the growth of Destination Clothes Free, or Scarlet were things we imagined in early January 2024. But it doesn't hurt to make some guesses.
As things look now, 2025 may well become the "Back to Europe" chapter. We're planning to do lots of traveling with Scarlet, which means we are kinda stuck on this continent. Luckily it's a continent with endless clothes-free opportunities. It's likely to become the "Nude Beaches Part 2" chapter as well and we very much hope that it also becomes a "We found so many cool new naturist places" chapter. Time will tell.
Thank you for this book!
The last seven chapters have been by far the best ones in the book of our lives. When we left Belgium back in 2017, with a one-way ticket in our hands, we didn't even dare to dream that we would be living this life years later. Although we are the writers of our book, every single one of your names appears in the credits section. Or the "thanks to" section if you wish. Because this really is all made possible thanks to you.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who watches our videos and reads our blog posts, to everyone who talks about us with friends, to everyone who sends us messages of gratitude, who asks questions or gives us tips that inspire us to create new content, and especially to everyone who has been supporting us on Patreon.
Without you, our book would look a lot different and we doubt that it would be as fun and exciting as it is today. So THANKS A MILLION for being there! We very much hope 2025 will be the best chapter in your own book of life. Well, the best one so far. Happy New Year!
