You're definitely right about the overall feeling of hopelessness, which I think is perfectly conveyed throughout the episode without overtly referencing 9/11 too much. The focus on money (the economy) and a perceived downward shift in the country's mood. This season definitely marks a bit of a tonal shift in that regard, especially with the lighting like you said. Look at the Lupertazzi family restaurant scenes in episode 4 for a further example of some dimly lit, Gordon Willis inspired cinematography. Can't wait for that episode in general. It's definitely a personal favourite. Most of the love, episode-wise, in this season seems to be reserved for 3 episodes in the back half, but ep. 4 is an underrated classic IMO.
