the Phase gates, functionally, are like the Stargates. Mechanically though, they are more like the Hyperspace Gates from Cowboy Bebop. The ones the Architects use however are pretty much Stargates.

Anthony Maxwell

The phase Gates just seemed like possibly inferior knock offs of the Stargates from the Stargate series. As it's hard to say really as I don't remember the games talking much about how they worked or any drawbacks they had. I do know a lot about the Stargates though because I was a huge fan of that series and the Stargates really only have two drawbacks that I remember one you need a connecting gate and while you could hypothetically travel anywhere in the universe instantly the further you go the more power it requires though. But this isn't really a problem unless you're trying to travel to another galaxy and any late stage 19th century civilization could power a Stargate and hold the Stargate open for a couple of hours before they start having some power issues and they'd be able to travel anywhere within the Milky Way galaxy.

Thank you for the breakdown. I’m so used to calling an HPG by its acronym that I wasn’t thinking about what it actually stood for.

Kek, ngl kinda wanna see him end up finding an old star league anchirage with some old damaged ships left behind during the exodus or something similiar, absolutely love the Monsoon Class Battleships (angry toothpaste ship ftw), Texas Battleship and aegis heavy Cruisers, and yes all of them are classic giant tube in space looking ships

GundamChief

No, it means that both use Hyperspace. Hyperspace is...somewhat similar across most fiction, and FTL systems in Subnautica use Hyperspace FTL provided they have enough power to accomplish it. As such the effects of using Subnautica Hyperspace FTL in Battletech causes similar effects. The escape ship in the game has a Hyperspace FTL in it, but it was expected to take the character months to return to the nearest Phase Gate. With the Ion Power Cells however, that time was cut down to days if not hours. However, ships in Subnautica are not fast. It takes them time to cross the span of space despite the FTL. That's why Phase Gates are so important, because they allow Cowboy Bebop style gate systems, but on a galactic level. Humanity in Subnautica actually has connected the entire Milky Way galaxy in a web of gate systems by the time the games occur. They have gone to a new galaxy and are making new networks. Architects however are far more advanced. Their ships are faster, and while they have a gate network, they don't need to the level of connectivity that humanity does.

Hilarious 😂 the celestial forge was just waiting with that one …. What? you got found out blinking about the system? Here! Have something to completely cloak yourself… what your not grateful for giving it bevor ….. get over it suckerrrrr😂

Lictor Magnus

Thanks for the chapter! Does that mean the HPG is using architect tech to send the signals?

GundamChief

I understand the worry, but, you're jumping the gun a bit. They cannot reverse engine the tech for a simple reason. I did quite a bit of study of Battletech to see how this would work on a time scale, and Nanotechnology, as in automated microscopic robots, do not exist, and the tech to develop it, doesn't either. Comstar has to find a way to actually take them apart before they can even understand what goes into them. They also have to find a way to manufacture the tools to make their own, which is far beyond what Comstar and the Clans have right now. I didn't say it in the thread on SB, or other places, but Comstar is not going to be able to reverse engineer this. It is very much beyond their capability. That's why he gave away repair tools. They cannot make anything from them, nor take them apart to make more because they cannot access the programming. that's in the nanobots themselves. Nor can they take and make more because they lack the means. without the nanobots, the tools are just paperweights. So let them copy the batteries and tool. It means nothing without the base manufacturing Subnautica has.

Kasikan

Hope this doesn't turn to him acting like an idiot and give up more tech to Comstar. He's already made the mistake of granting them tech more than once now with the repair tools and the information that it can fix or build anything that it has schematics for. Which was a horrible move if they can reverse engineer the tech. Will allow them to build up a massive force in little time with it. He could have easily conquered the planet, then uplifted it. Now he's in a situation where Comstar is starting to gain far too much from him and will grow more powerful due to it. If they learn about his ships or the travel speeds they can reach, they'll cause him tons of problems. He can travel a greater distance in a few days than what they generally do in weeks to months.

GundamChief

You reading my mind? *narrows eyes* :P

Matthew Moore

LOL, well he could always say he’s continuing the research that got him stranded on the surface, you’d just have to be misleading on how successful it currently is.
