🕑 Added 2024-10-14 00:22:21 +0000 UTCTo help the character in "Dorf Fren!" navigate the various fictional dwarf races, I will be focusing on common traits that most fantasy dwarves share:
---
1. Stout and Resilient Nature:
Commonality: Dwarves are often portrayed as sturdy, strong, and resilient, capable of enduring harsh conditions and taking heavy damage in battle.
Power: The character could be granted enhanced physical resilience, resistance to toxins and poisons, and a strong constitution, allowing them to survive the tough environments dwarves often inhabit.
Enhanced Physical Resilience: Detailed Leveling Structure (1-10)
Level 1:
Basic Endurance: The character can endure bumps and falls that would normally result in bruising without any discomfort. For instance, if they bump into a sharp corner of a table, they won’t bruise or feel much pain. They recover from minor scrapes and cuts within hours instead of days.
Level 2:
Moderate Impact Resistance: When involved in incidents like a low-speed car crash (up to 30 mph), they can step out of the vehicle with nothing more than a sense of having been jostled. Minor lacerations from such accidents close quickly without stitches.
Level 3:
Increased Bone Density: The character can slip and fall from a ladder (up to 10 feet) and land without any fractures. Should a fracture occur in harsher conditions, it heals within days, significantly faster than normal human recovery.
Level 4:
High-Impact Tolerance: Direct impacts, such as being struck by a moving bicycle at a crossing, result in momentary disorientation rather than serious injury. They can get back on their feet almost immediately, with any bruises dissipating within hours.
Level 5:
Advanced Wound Healing: Stab wounds or deep cuts from accidents begin to clot and close within minutes. A serious kitchen knife cut, for example, would stop bleeding rapidly and leave no scar.
Level 6:
Bullet Resilience: Small firearms like 9mm handguns cause minimal damage. A bullet wound might penetrate the skin but is unlikely to cause significant internal damage. Bleeding stops quickly, and the wound begins to heal almost immediately.
Level 7:
Rifle Caliber Resistance: Shots from high-powered rifles such as AR-15s result in blunt trauma rather than penetrating injuries. The character experiences bruising and pain, but the bullets do not cause lethal damage, and recovery is swift.
Level 8:
Explosive Endurance: Can stand within proximity (about 10 feet) to a grenade explosion and sustain only superficial shrapnel injuries. Shrapnel that makes contact is quickly expelled from the body, and the wounds heal within hours.
Level 9:
Extreme Fall Survival: The character can survive falls from significant heights, such as from an airplane (without a parachute), and manage to stand up with moderate injuries (e.g., severe bruising and some temporary immobility) that heal completely within days.
Level 10:
Near Invulnerability: Able to withstand close-range exposure to high-grade explosives or severe natural disasters (like standing at the epicenter of a small earthquake or directly in a firestorm) with no lasting harm. The character can emerge from the rubble of a collapsed building or walk out of a burning forest without any injuries that last more than a few minutes.
Additional Narrative Elements:
Testing Limits: Each level's upgrade can be introduced after a scenario that tests these limits, helping to display the character's growing resilience and providing dramatic tension.
Emotional and Social Impact: Consider exploring the psychological and social ramifications of such abilities. How do they affect the character’s relationships, sense of vulnerability, or feeling of humanity?
Limitations and Weaknesses: Despite physical resilience, maintaining weaknesses in other areas—whether emotional, psychological, or magical—can keep the character relatable and the stakes high.
This more detailed progression offers not only clarity but also helps to paint a vivid picture of how these abilities affect the character's experiences and interactions in the story.

2. Mastery of Craftsmanship:
Commonality: Dwarves are legendary blacksmiths, miners, and engineers. Their skill in crafting weapons, armor, and intricate machinery is often unmatched.

Level 3:
Advanced Handcrafting: Can create complex mechanical devices such as clocks or basic firearms from scratch, understanding the mechanics and design intuitively.
Level 4:
Artisan Mastery: The character’s skills are now equivalent to those of a master artisan. They can craft intricate jewelry and finely detailed metalwork with ease, including personalizing items with artistic flourishes.
Level 5:
Minor Magical Crafting: Begins to infuse craftsmanship with magic. Can create items that glow with light or remain warm to the touch, enhancing their functionality with simple magical traits.
Level 6:
Structural Crafting: Able to construct larger and more complex structures like bridges or buildings with enhanced durability and unique properties, such as resistance to natural disasters.
Level 7:
Expert Magical Crafting: Can infuse items with significant magical properties, such as swords that never dull or shields that can absorb elemental damage.
Level 8:
Master Engineer: The character can build advanced mechanical and magical systems, such as self-operating machines or devices that harness elemental energies.
Level 9:
Architect of Wonders: Able to create legendary items and structures that incorporate both high technology and magic, such as a fortress that can shift locations or a ship that travels between dimensions.
Level 10:
Godlike Creator: At this pinnacle of crafting mastery, the character can create artifacts of immense power and complexity, potentially shaping the destiny of nations or altering the balance of power in the world. They might craft a set of armor that makes the wearer invincible or a weapon that could level mountains.
Integration into Storytelling
Challenges and Milestones: Each level could be achieved through significant plot points, challenges, or discoveries, which not only showcase the character’s growth but also drive the story forward.
Moral and Ethical Dilemmas: As the character’s ability to create grows, so too could the moral implications of their creations. How they choose to use or share their skills could become a central theme.
Impact on the World: The items and structures the character creates could have major impacts on the surrounding world, influencing everything from small communities to entire kingdoms.
This detailed progression gives the character a clear path of development in their crafting skills, each level building on the last, culminating in the ability to create items of almost mythical power. This not only enhances their role in the story but also expands the scope of their influence within the world.

Basic Geosense: The character can sense vibrations in the earth, helping them detect if someone is approaching or if machinery is active nearby. This allows for a heightened awareness of their surroundings underground.
Level 2:
Mineral Detection: They can sense nearby minerals and ores, making them effective at locating valuable resources underground. This skill is perfect for mining expeditions and can detect common ores within a small radius.
Level 3:
Enhanced Earth Manipulation: The character can manipulate small quantities of dirt and stone, shaping them with their hands or tools without needing heavy machinery. This can be used for digging, crafting simple stone tools, or creating makeshift shelters.
Level 4:
Structural Sensing: They can assess the structural integrity of tunnels and caves, making them valuable in preventing collapses in mining operations or underground explorations. This ability ensures safety and efficiency in their undertakings.
Level 5:
Intermediate Geomancy: The character can now manipulate larger volumes of earth and stone, shaping the landscape to some extent. This could include diverting a small stream, creating a natural barrier, or tunneling through soft rock without conventional tools.
Level 6:
Advanced Mineral Detection: Their ability to detect minerals extends to rarer and more valuable resources, and over a larger area. This includes precious gems and metals, which can be pinpointed with remarkable accuracy.
Level 7:
Seismic Sense: The character gains the ability to detect and interpret seismic activity, predicting potential earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. This can be critical in safeguarding communities living in geologically unstable areas.
Level 8:
Large-Scale Geomancy: At this level, the character can perform significant geological manipulations, such as creating or collapsing large rock formations, forging pathways through mountains, or isolating an area by raising stone walls from the ground.
Level 9:
Master Geomancer: The character can manipulate the geological elements on a massive scale, affecting entire landscapes. They can raise or lower the ground, create fortified stone structures, or even form small islands in bodies of water.
Level 10:
Godlike Earth Control: The character achieves near-complete control over earth and stone, able to manipulate geological structures at will. This includes causing or calming earthquakes, creating large-scale fortifications, and potentially even controlling volcanic eruptions.
Integration into Storytelling
Challenges and Milestones: Each advancement in level can be tied to significant achievements or pivotal moments in the story, showcasing the character's growing power and its impact on the world.
Moral and Ethical Dilemmas: As the character's power grows, so too does the potential for its misuse. The ability to shape the earth can lead to conflicts over land, resources, and power.
Impact on the World: The character’s abilities could significantly alter the political and environmental landscape, making them a key player in any conflict or alliance.
This progression not only enhances the character's role within the story but also aligns with traditional dwarven themes of mastery over the earth, highlighting their deep connection to the land they inhabit and mine.

Detailed Character Progression System
---
Basic Progression (Levels 1-4)
Mechanism: The character gains abilities and improves through direct actions and successes in various challenges across different leaps.
Criteria for Leveling Up: Each level from 1 to 4 is achieved by completing specific tasks, overcoming obstacles, or reaching predetermined milestones that demonstrate mastery and competence in the relevant skills.
Examples: Completing a difficult forge task, winning a duel, resolving a complex dispute, etc.
Intermediate Progression (Levels 5-9)
Mechanism: Starting at level 5, the progression system incorporates both achievements in the field and reflective practices, coupled with specific trials set by ancestral spirits or divine entities.
Criteria for Leveling Up:
Reflection: After completing significant actions, the character reflects on their experiences, drawing lessons and insights that prepare them for the trials.
Trials: Each level from 5 to 9 requires the character to pass a trial that tests their abilities in a profound way, aligning with the skills associated with the specific ability being leveled.
Examples: Mediating a major clan conflict, leading troops in a critical battle, creating a legendary artifact.
Demi-God Status
Trigger: Achieving level 5 in any ability grants the character demi-god status, providing them with enhanced capabilities and recognition among the divine and mortal realms.
Implications: The character begins to exhibit supernatural traits and gains a heightened reputation, influencing their interactions and the challenges they face.
Advanced Progression (Level 10)
Mechanism: The pinnacle of each ability’s progression. Achieving level 10 is marked by a final, most challenging trial that tests the character’s mastery over the extensive skills and wisdom they have accumulated.
Criteria for Leveling Up: Successfully completing the ultimate trial set by the highest ancestral or divine entity, proving the character's worthiness to ascend to full godhood.
Example: Uniting warring factions under a permanent peace, defeating a legendary enemy, or reversing a catastrophic curse affecting the land.
Ascension to Full Godhood
Trigger: Reaching level 10 in all abilities marks the character's transition from demi-god to a full god, akin to deities in the Greek Pantheon.
Implications: The character joins the ranks of the ancestral spirits who tested them, assuming their place among the divine. This ascension brings new responsibilities and powers, allowing the character to shape realities and influence the world on a cosmic scale.
This detailed progression system not only defines clear milestones and mechanisms for character development but also ties the character’s growth to both the narrative’s action and deeper, reflective learning. This structure ensures that the character’s evolution is both earned and integral to the unfolding story.

GundamChief
You missed a part. this is achievement based, not grind based. He gains by doing "quests" not by slashing over and over. I intend to make the "quests" the MC goes through something that requires a "worthy" achievement by the Ancestral aspect (Dwarf God/dess) he's trying to level up for.
Dale
Roll a d10 for each aspect and use that otherwise you're starting from 1 across the board and the call to grind from some readers will be voracious.

This isn't a chapter this is an info dump.
Alex I
Cool, now make with the chapter before we have to introduce you to an old fashioned Dwarven drinking game.

Something I had made prior to announcing it, and just posting it for reference later.
