How many PSI do you think it took to push that plastic thing through?? That's amazing. Also since that's the liner for the hose, how did the rest of the hose not just give up and burst once that plastic piece left the scene...? Dumb question edit (from an electronics dude so an honest question): Is this the same kind of failure that happens in brake hoses when they go "bad" and leave calipers locked up, etc?

This sounds like a case of "Pull the entire engine" and do a teardown. Drop the tranny and diff, then you've got the room to fix the brake and gas lines, and patch the frame. Expensive, but fixes everything.

I totally empathize with you on working on those old junkers. You get to the point you are agraid to touch anything as you know it will likely break, crack, or fall off and then you have to deal with it and explain to the customer how you have to charge them more. Nice work. I've definately never seen a hose do that before. Good catch and kind of lucky that it started leaking the way it did.

I've had a terrible string of car issues. First my relatively low mileage Jag destroyed it's engine at 63k miles (after a second turbo grenaded) then my Jeep had an oil leak from the headgasket.... Never mind the BMW EV getting a new motor & electronics.... Luckily the Jag & BMW were handled under warranty, but still. I've been driving my 1993 JDM van which is the most reliable thing I own, but also bought a spare car (minter 2008 BMW wagon) which, despite 167k miles, seems to be on the more reliable side.
