Alternative Support Method
🕑 Added 2023-01-21 20:01:02 +0000 UTCHey everyone! It's been quite a while since the last time I posted on Patreon. The blog has had a few update posts since then as well, but nothing too major has been going on...
Some of you may have taken the recent end-of-year poll that was featured on the front page of Catbox for a while, and one of the questions was "On a scale of 1-10, would a paid subscription plan granting access to additional features interest you? (replacing Patreon)". Based on the responses I got to that question, there was a pretty clear majority not interested in a paid subscription plan - however there was still a bit that were interested.
Since this directly relates to you guys, I figured it'd be best to directly poll you all and get your opinions on the matter.
Would you be interested in a monthly reoccurring subscription alternative to Patreon, which granted access to additional features, including possibly:
- a custom subdomain for your files;
- up to 500 MB upload (100 GB of space for uploads larger than 200 MB);
- password protected files;
- management of Litterbox files
Pricing would be somewhere between $7 to $12, but I am open to hearing what price points you all would think is appropriate.
Please feel free to comment below, and I will answer any questions or concerns. Note that nothing will change in the immediate future - this is just a public (private I guess) opinion poll. Catbox will remain free and user supported, as it has for the last 7 years.

Also as a patreon creator, I would like to know how to delete my creations if they are uploaded without permission.

If you’re looking to get a higher revshare then I know kofi is basically the best in the market right now for that, it’s just lacking uhh… any useful api for actually provisioning rewards, so that would have to be manual. It might make sense to go with something like that, maybe not. It definitely depends on what the cost is and how much you value your time.

I think I'd be interested if you got more money from an alternative platform but I don't really think I'd personally want much more in features

At $1/month I feel a bit like a freeloader with the space I'm using, but $7/month is too much without some set amount of space and better file management.

Main thing for me is fast speed and 24/7 reliable access to my files. I would pay extra for reliablilty and for making sure that my links never be dead (only if I personally choose to delete the file). Pricing between $7-12 is fine for me.

Its kind of convenient to have it on Patreon, as I already support others on Patreon and adding catbox support was easy to do. I never like having another account to manage and pay for if I can avoid it. That being said, those extra options would be great, and I would be interested in switching if those were implemented. In particular, a custom subdomain and password protected files would make it worth changing over to a different payment system for me. One other important detail - Ideally I'd like to be able to pay for it through PayPal, as that is the way I currently pay for Patreon.

Almost this exactly. However, I would still be interested in an alternative support method, if just to have less money going to Patreon, and more to Catbox.

I'm not interested as I have no need for those features. I only use catbox for quick and easy file sharing and I don't need to manage the files after uploading. I like to support the site as it's the best at what it does, but $7 a month ($84 a year) for features I won't use isn't something I can do.

I'm here for two reasons. One, no-bullshit uploading with direct links. Two, no paid features. (Sane management and cute catgirls in storage boxes surely help). The moment extra functions in exchange for money come into the picture, you move category in my head from a concept I want to support into a business, and a business doesn't deserve donations - only evaluation over quality of service provided compared to other available competitors. It's your website, so if you feel like this is the only way forwards - that's better than another dead website; But if there's any other extra revenue stream you can consider before paid plans, I implore you to explore it first.

Thanks for the feedback! I've been working on trying to get better hardware and connectivity for Catbox, but since we're running on a pretty tight budget, upgrades usually have to come out of my pocket. I won't stop trying though!

The Patreon fee isn't horrible since we've been using Patreon for a long time, and are on their "Founders" fee scale, however certain policies that Patreon enforces on us make certain things difficult. We do accept Cryptocurrency gifts, however I'm not sure of a site that uses those on a reoccuring basis.

My goal is just to help support you and the site. If there's another patronage method you'd prefer (such as one that reduces the fees that Patreon charges?), I'm open to switching. Keep us updated. Cheers! =)

I mostly just use the litterbox because of the higher limit, and I usually only need the file to be stored remporarily. To me, higher bandwidth and better response times would be more valuable.
