Big thanks to everyone who gave me ideas for Valentine’s Month - I’m considering weaving the ideas into a comic, but who knows how things will turn out in the end! Until then, feel free to take a look at this month’s sketches - a collection of ideas and scribbles based on how I felt this month and ideas I was toying with in my free time. I’ll be uploading a new old version of the trailer for The ZPD tonight with a new update for the trailer this week so stay tuned for that as well!
Without further ado let’s dive in!
Negativity
I’d wanted to explore darker feelings in my pieces last year, but couldn’t do so organically. This month I had the chance to really dig into my life and access my emotions and what came out was mostly negative - sadness, anger, hurt, loneliness, abandonment, and distrust. I found that when I attempted to draw happier things to mask those emotions nothing was done, but once a friend suggested that I draw how I felt my pen was all over the place. These are just the pieces I felt comfortable sharing. If you’re feeling bad, don’t mask it. I found that I project my negative feelings more via Nick since I relate more to him, especially with his approach to confrontation and his level of fragility.
Tell yourself it’s ok to feel the way you do and find an appropriate outlet.
Zoobound
This month I wound up writing/ drawing a lot of feral scribbles after the previous feelings subsided and I enjoyed every second of it! I spent a lot of time outside exploring my new home and it gave me lots of fodder for my own side story. I still stand by the desire to animate it instead of making it a comic, but considering I’d be here forever if I tried to I’ll just have to let it go XD. The comic would probably drawn with the brush used in the fully-colored drawings below (Winter Coat Nick).
Sketching is always fun for me and I’m glad Patreon is a way to share the doodles I would’ve otherwise kept on my tablet. I hope you do too!

These are beautiful, Qal! Always love seeing your sketches and doodles, even your negative ones. No one is happy all the time. Not you, and not Nick or Judy, and that's okay. I can just FEEL Judy's frustration with Nick in that top piece. And I love your designs for Zoobound! Nick looks so cute here! Can't wait to see more! Thanks for sharing these, Qal!

Wow, that's pretty deep, yet also amazing. I don't I'll have the energy to do much of anything if I'm down. That sketch of Judy with frustrated screaming :o. Also love that last picture :3
