After the Ally video with RTX 4090 mobile GPU last week, I figured it would be worth seeing how a gaming laptop for the same price compares to the Ally alone.
Otherwise we're about half way into the year, so it's time for a mid-year update talking about the good and bad laptops that we've tested so far in 2023!
The embargo for the Razer Blade 14 ended like a week ago, but we still don't have a video. Long story short, the one we have does not go above 80W on the RTX 4070 no matter what we do, so they're sending a replacement unit out, though not sure when that is, but that's why that's delayed.
We we were able to get back to work on the Gigabyte G5. When it first arrived the highest performance mode was worse than the one before it and clearly broken. It took a couple of weeks, but after they got a BIOS update from Clevo it's now working properly. It's been a bit frustrating, as we spend all this time troubleshooting/beta testing stuff instead of making content, but I guess it is what it is..
I think ASUS are sending the Zephyrus G14 this week, but that's not confirmed. Otherwise we're still working on the HP Omen Transcend 16, XMG Neo 16, and Legion Slim 7i Gen 8. MSI are also sending an RTX 4060 card, which I want to use for a laptop vs desktop comparison. I am really interested in this, because the specs/power limit are extremely similar.
I roughly planned out the video timeline based on all the stuff we have on hand, and we've got enough work ahead of us to get to the end of August even if nothing new were to turn up, so I'm going to get back into it!
