A Fine Art Commission

I don't have any of my own art on the walls. Never have. I've known other artists who do, some who virtually surround themselves with it. Of course there's the issue of cringiness—when I look at my work, all I see are the flaws. From what I understand, that tendency toward overly harsh self-criticism is fairly common. This is something different. I think, as strange as it sounds, I don't do work that I want on my walls. Don't get me wrong, I do what I do because I enjoy it, and many of the artists I follow do work along similar lines. But I don't have their work on my walls, either. When it comes to what I want to surround myself with, I'm very particular. Currently I mostly have framed posters of classic old horror and sci-fi movies up, but lately I've been looking for calming, mood-enhancing art. Fall landscapes, that sort of thing. (Check out Brent Cotton's work, if you appreciate moody explorations of the fleeting quality of light at dusk and dawn.) So why don't I have the urge to create that sort of work myself? I have no idea. You'd have to ask my subconscious, I guess.
