The last 3 songs on this album are stand outs for me alongside Kyoto and chinese satellite! Cant wait to watch you dissect those

You make SO MANY good points here! I think you are 100% correct about Phoebe's lyrics. She definitely doesn't waste words. She says exactly what she needs to say and nothing more. And it really is fun to work to understand her lyrics, so I'm all for it! I also completely agree with you about the "apparent defeat" with "Moon Song" and "Savior Complex". These songs definitely seem like they go together, both sonically and content-wise. I'm definitely looking forward to whatever is next!

Haha, I definitely understood her sentiment with the airport, and like good for them--but that could never be me đđđ Also, I agree with you-- I don't think the rejection is a physical one. I think the speaker longs for the subject to open up to her emotionally and that just isn't happening the way the speaker wants it to.

This one is so interesting! Itâs funny, you made me realize Iâve completely misinterpreted the second verse for the years Iâve been listening to itđ for whatever reason, I read âI drag you to the shoreâ as the speaker making the reluctant subject go to the beach. With that meaning, the rest of the verse gets even more confusing than it already is LOL. I agree that Phoebeâs songs are usually structurally closer to poetry than what weâre used to in a song. Itâs really fascinating to me that sheâs gotten so much mainstream recognition - totally deservedly! - but I wouldnât expect this album to have such wide appeal. I think part of her poetic talent, and also what distinguishes her from a lot of other popular music, is how sparse her lyrics are. She never says too much (maybe in some instances it even seems like she doesnât say enough haha). And that makes the times where she does say something plainly and simply *super* powerful. She doesnât over-explain; just like a good poem, she makes you do the work. Thank you for letting us do that work with you!âșïž You know in stories how thereâs typically an âapparent defeatâ? In my opinion Moon Song and Savior Complex are the âapparent defeatâ of this album lol, especially sonically; I think youâll enjoy the last three songs quite a bit more.
Itâs hard to tell where the enjambment ends, but being trapped in a car with smoke will definitely cause your eyes to tear up. On twitter, Phoebe confirmed that the line âshow me yours, Iâll show you mineâ refers to âsecrets, and nudesâ. She also confirmed on twitter that she is talking about âpicking someone up from the airport and the horny drive home before you have sexâ. If someone has been on trip itâs been a while since youâve seen them and been able to be physically intimate, so that makes sense, but it is interesting that the next line is then âturn me on and turn me downâ. The subject isnât turning down the sex clearly, but maybe they are turning down sharing deeper secrets or letting the speaker save them or defining the relationship
