🕑 Added 2021-09-16 04:34:47 +0000 UTCSo I was on the Bugle Live last week, as a giant head coming in via a screen and this week I did ABC television’s show “Question Everything”. Two different things that weren’t quite a live comedy show but both of which were WAY closer to a live comedy show than I’ve done for a long time.
The Bugle was interesting, because I have been doing the “comedy via zoom call” thing for a while, but there was a *distinct* difference provided by the live audience; the nature of the audience all sitting in the same space with one another bridged a huge part of the gap that you feel when you’re performing not-in-the-room. That said, I felt dizzy the whole show, because by the nature of the recording, (I was coming in via Producer Chris’ Laptop), I could both see and hear myself on the giant screen, with about a 1/2 second delay. It made timing a bit of a challenge!
The TV thing, I was there in the room with the rest of the panel but the audience was small - just the crew. The recording was so much fun, and I poured a lot of energy into enjoying and boosting the other performers, (against the unwritten ‘panel show rules’, of course - I was once told you’re not meant to laugh at the other acts because then the editors cut to shots of you laughing instead of your jokes or tags).
Of course, they always do cut a few of your favourite jokes, but I got a few good lines away, and that’s all you can hope for!
One I was sad to lose in the edit was.

A: getting to know for sure that you’re not a balloon.
The show was so much fun to film, and I wasn’t as self conscious about seeing myself extremely pregnant on screen as I thought I might have been - at the best of times I feel strange about being on camera, and having had the odd luck of not having to contemplate the surreal reality of myself as a ‘seen object’ for the consumption of the public since I started showing, (thanks to lockdown I hadn’t even needed to buy any clothes during this pregnancy) I thought it would be more of a shock to see myself so changed as a being-on-screen from the different angle that the television camera so ruthlessly provides. It’s always weird to see your own head on screen, and I thought this would be more surreal. It was, but in quite a fun way!

Congratulations on both the performances and the pregnancy! I thought it was a shame that one of your longer jokes seemed to have been edited in half to cut back to Jan but I'm sure that must happen a lot more than we realise. Producers Chris/Ped are just masters at smoothly covering it with some interstitial music. I'm now endlessly curious what the followup punchline was. Compliments also on your diligent separation of public and personal – I had no idea you were even pregnant before yesterday. I have a 9 month old boy and the empathy-high made me re-join Patreon just for high fives. Babies are such cool little people. Edit: Yes, I accidentally posted and deleted a half-written version of this comment. Apparently Patreon treats the Return key as "Enter".

Woah! I’ve never met anyone with a Nielsen Box! I’m star-struck!
It was a great ep of Question Everything, probably the best one so far in my extremely biased opinion as a big fan of both you and Jan Fran! Still continually furious that we have a Nielson box but the ABC is the one channel we can't get so I don't get get to be a representative of 3000 people on the one channel I actually watch on a regular basis :/ I just want to prove that some people in their 20s can be very boring and just want to watch the ABC news channel!
