New crowdfunding goal - Custom Models plugin
🕑 Added 2022-02-06 20:29:59 +0000 UTCHello everyone,
TL;DR: New Patreon goal - for 2500€/month I will create a Custom Models plugin! $100 and higher pledged get lifetime access to all models I distribute!
I have just now added a new crowdfunding goal, and it is one I've spoken about for the last few weeks.
Right now, it is possible to use Custom Models in EliteMobs if you use Model Engine. However, Model Engine has a few issues; it costs $18, it is not open source, it does not maintain any API documentation and when the plugin updates it breaks everything made for it. Performance also tends to be rather bad rather quickly, though this is in big part due to Minecraft itself.
This is a crying shame. This plugin is pretty much the only way of getting custom models on your Spigot server right now, and I really feel like it's getting held back both by the $18 asking price and the state of its API.
This is where the new goal comes in. If we reach the goal of ~2500€/mo, I will be able to afford to sink the hundreds of hours of development required to get this off the ground.
As with EliteMobs, this plugin will be built on a foundation of it being high performance, free, open source and perhaps most of all, easy to use. As with EliteMobs, a generous number of free models will be provided on the page, and further content will be made downloadable which will fund further development. Finally, as with EliteMobs, you will be free to create and distribute your own content beyond what I create the same way that I do it.
The project would be taken on in parts, as follows:
1) Getting the plugin off the ground and getting the models to work
2) Automatically generating texture packs from standard Blockbench files for distribution
3) Finding a free and easy hosting solution, preferably built into the plugin directly
4) Extra features (mounted entities, other Blockbench file formats, ease of use features, etc.)
Each phase will be independently funded. This means that once the 2500€ goal is reached, I will begin the development phase. Once that phase is over, if the goal is still met, I will continue developing the next phase. If not… well I will probably keep on developing the plugin, but at a slower pace since, you know, I need to make money somehow.
Patreon supporters will get access to an alpha version of the plugin, which will become free for all to use once it is deemed ready for release.
Finally, this is not me stopping or even pausing EliteMobs development. This is something I would add on top of EliteMobs, which is why I am asking for this much funding – taking this project on would mean working on these projects 12+ hours a day, not really leaving me with any time to work on anything else for income.
Pledging to this project will give you access to the alpha builds for the duration of your patronage (that’s a patreon limitation unfortunately) and for anyone pledging $100 or more throughout February, if the project is realized I will give you lifetime access to all free and premium models developed for this plugin using the email associated to the pledge.
If you pledged $100 or more and the project does not get funded, I will still give you lifetime access to all custom models made for EliteMobs using the email associated to the pledge. It’s basically the same thing, but you won’t have a slightly cooler plugin to run those models on.
Even if the project fails, you still get all the benefits currently on Patreon, which aren’t half bad!
Some people said they would be interested and would contribute to this crowdfunding campaign. Now’s the time to dig deep!
Happy funding,
- MagmaGuy
