noteGRABBER 2 - Audio to Midi
🕑 Added 2025-07-16 14:18:09 +0000 UTCToday I explored NoteGrabber 2, a plugin that lets me manually convert audio to MIDI in any DAW using a visual sonogram.
I appreciate how it allows precise note editing and extraction, making it easy to analyze songs, isolate basslines, or experiment with complex sounds. The new version includes improved visuals, a quick grab option, zoom features, and real-time note preview. While it’s still a bit pricey, I find its workflow unique and useful when I need more control over audio-to-MIDI conversion.
NoteGrabber 2 is a plugin for converting audio to MIDI or note data in any DAW.
Offers a manual, visual approach to extracting notes by painting over a sonogram, unlike most automatic audio-to-MIDI algorithms.
New features in NoteGrabber 2 include updated visuals, a grid overlay, note preview, zoom function, and "quick grab" for automatic note extraction.
The plugin allows selective note extraction, helpful for isolating basslines, chords, or specific harmonics.
Quick grab can produce unwanted extra notes, similar to other automatic extraction tools.
The grid overlay is only a visual aid and does not snap notes to the grid.
Preview feature lets you hear the notes as you paint them.
Useful for analyzing music, learning chord progressions, extracting melodies, and understanding track harmonics.
Can assist in extracting notes from atonal or noisy sounds for use in new compositions.
Lacks support for extracting microtonal data or incorporating MPE/pitch bend per note, which is requested but complex to implement.
Noted as more affordable and straightforward than alternatives like Melodyne, though the reviewer finds $69 somewhat expensive.
The workflow is unique compared to other available solutions and is particularly valued for manual note selection.
