"So, I can use Sun Breathing in my daily life now?"
"Yes."
"That's great!"
Kevin was thrilled. His weakest moments were undoubtedly before using Take Over Magic. For instance, right now, he was vulnerable. If someone took him out before he could transform, it would be over.
Moreover, he didn't want to go all out every time he encountered someone.
If a random minion from a dark guild appeared, transforming to deal with them every time was impractical. Transforming consumes a significant amount of energy. If enemies kept coming, even with his high magic power, he couldn't sustain it.
The best approach was to strengthen himself enough to handle most enemies without transforming. He'd save Take Over Magic for exceptionally strong opponents.
Sun Breathing enhances physical abilities. Achieving Full Concentration: Constant allows one to maintain the technique 24/7, gradually strengthening physical attributes.
Motivated, Kevin sat cross-legged and began to breathe.
Soon, he stopped, his face filled with terror and drenched in sweat.
"I can't do it! Just one minute of full concentration breathing nearly killed me. It's too painful, my lungs hurt, my ears throbbed... Ahhh!"
Kevin slapped his ears, finding relief after several hits.
"I was terrified! For a moment, it felt like my heart would pop out of my ears!"
"System, what's going on? I used the breathing technique smoothly before! Why not now?"
"Previously, the host's abilities were those of the character card. Now, they are the host's own. The host's foundation is too weak."
"Then how do I improve my foundation?"
"1: Run 10 kilometers daily. 2: Perform breath-holding training 10 times daily, increasing from one minute until reaching 10 minutes. 3: Use Sun Breathing for 20 minutes daily."
"That doesn't seem too difficult. I'll start tomorrow morning."
After showering, Kevin lay down in his new home and slept soundly.
The next morning, before sunrise, Kevin got up, dressed, and began running around Magnolia Town.
The sky was just turning pale, the air cool and perfect for running.
Ten kilometers was roughly one full lap around Magnolia Town.
Kevin finished in about 30 minutes, much faster than before. Previously, it took him an hour to run ten kilometers. His physical abilities had unknowingly improved since arriving in this world.
Next was breath-holding training: finding a large basin of water, putting his face in, and holding his breath as long as possible. Kevin's maximum was only a minute and a half.
Finally, Kevin sat cross-legged in the yard and used Sun Breathing.
By then, the sun was high, and Kevin stood to head to the guild. Sun Breathing was to be used for 20 minutes daily, not necessarily all at once, and could be done anytime, anywhere. The best effect was after ample rest.
Just as Kevin stepped out, he saw Mira and Elfman approaching.
"Kevin!!"
Elfman waved excitedly. Since their last mission, Elfman and Kevin had become good friends. Mira helped Kevin with his guild registration and found him a house. They were the most familiar people to Kevin in the guild.
"Good morning! Kevin, how did you sleep last night?"
Mira greeted him with a radiant smile. Her lovely smile immediately brightened Kevin's mood.
"Very well, thank you, Mira. Without you, I wouldn't have found such a satisfactory house."
"Don't mention it. You helped Elfman, so consider this a return favor."
"Return favor? If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have forgotten. How about coming to my place for dinner sometime? I'll cook. Consider it my housewarming party."
"Hmm... that's hard to refuse."
"Kevin, you can cook?!"
Elfman looked surprised.
"I'm decent!"
Which Chinese man doesn't know how to cook?
The three chatted as they arrived at the guild.
Soon, people began arriving. For many, coming to the guild was like going to work. Even if they spent the day laughing and fooling around without taking missions, they'd still come to check in.
Eating, drinking, and having fun with companions was better than being alone.
After eating and drinking his fill, Kevin went to the request board to find a suitable job.
B-rank missions were not an option; higher-priority A-rank missions were his goal.
A-rank missions offered rewards of 1,000,000 J or more, mostly subjugation tasks.
Subjugation was the most dangerous work, primarily involving hunting powerful Magical Beasts. In this world, abundant magic power meant animals became Magical Beasts.
Powerful Magical Beasts could be stronger than the Ten Great Holy Mages.
Kevin scanned the board and chose a mission with a 1,000,000 J reward. It wasn't far from Fairy Tail, requiring about a day and a half of travel. A round trip would take three days, and with the mission itself, about four or five days.
After deducting rest time, he could complete one A-rank mission per week, totaling four A-rank missions a month. Plus the monthly gacha opportunity provided by the system, he could have a 10-pull gacha opportunity after two months.
Just as Kevin was about to tear off the request.
Makarov's authoritative voice rang out: "No! You cannot take that job."
Kevin looked in Makarov's direction and saw a striking figure with long red hair, a beautiful face, silver-gray armor, a black pleated skirt, and black boots, exuding a heroic and valiant presence.
Kevin recognized her immediately.
"The Fairy Queen—Erza!"
