Elias Rosner

Wow! wow wow wow. Gorgeously shot, beautiful instrumentals, and moving singing. I really liked the earnestness by the end and the somber mood. Took me long enough to watch!

rionsanura

i keep coming back to this one and breaking out the tissues and also the catharsis

simon james puttock

Brian I beg that you drop this. I've watched this video like 20 times and I love the song so much

Ell

Another trans fan here who resonated with this and loved it a lot. I'm a trans woman and while I do have complicated feelings about how my voice tends to affect people's perception of my gender, I am also a singer and I love my bass range, and this video reminded me of that. So, thanks for that unexpected affirmation. Also, a little sidebar: it fills my heart when cis folks talk about their own insecurities and conflicted feelings around things that are attached to gender!! I've heard from some cis folks that they feel tentative about having feelings about their name or voice or what have you, as if that is somehow taking up space that doesn't belong to them. Everyone gets to have gender feelings, whether they're trans or not, and y'all have my solidarity in doing so. <3

Andrew Eddy

hello mr. gilbert, long time follower (since dances moving!) first time commenter. i am a trans man, and i have always loved your voice so much. your range is very similar to my own even before T and your singing has been a very huge part in why i still like my voice even though i, too, wish it was lower. the fact that one of my favorite singers has my range, especially with the softer tones you use in songs like this and the altogether, has always meant a lot to me and kept me going. i know a lot the comments are echoing this sentiment, but i just wanted to say that you specifically have helped me with accepting myself. so thank you for singing, your voice is wonderful.

Claire Lovell

I hadn't thought much before about how being vulnerable in art is hard and costly every time. Thank you for paying that price so we get to enjoy your amazing and touching work.

Levi Ace Day

Honestly, this is gonna resonate with so many people. I feel so seen ❤️ You get it man

Cory!

This is a beautiful video. I relate a lot as a trans guy. Testosterone never made my voice as deep as i had hoped.

Suzanne Repellin

This is such a great song and an amazing video. I relate too. Just last week I was recovering from Covid and happily singing some Fleetwood Mac because my broken voice kinda sounded like Stevie Nicks.

TwasADream

Lovely song. Lovely voice. With and without the gravel.

Chaz

This is very good! Sure a little silly but that’s why we love your work. This has a quiet dignity that humor cuts a little rather than being ‘funny’. Beautiful photography work on this video, too!

Elizabeth Parmeter

The song is amazing and so is that freaking jacket!

Karis

I LOVE this!!! It's so beautiful!!!

Catrick

it might be silly but i'm frankly tearing up a little so there's more going on <3

Greg Miller

For whatever it's worth, I love a lot of the more serious work from your time with The Altogether. You have a great voice and I'm always happy to hear more of it, regardless of whether or not it's cracking jokes.

Roux Bedrosian

Brian, this is beautiful. It's so funny how we view ourselves in these particular, unfair ways. To me, you have a lush, dynamic voice that I always enjoy hearing. To know you're self-conscious about it is baffling, yet somehow relatable? Incredible job, I do hope you'll share this to your channel!

Constance

I knew someone who picked up smoking to change his voice, and all it did was make him smelly and irritable. You're lovely as you are, and I appreciate you sharing this with us. I'm right here with all the other trans folks echoing the wish that we could change our voices. You really struck a chord with us with your vulnerability here, so please know it's appreciated!

Escher Cattle

I really like this! I'll echo the other trans people here re: not having what we hoped for in vocal changes. Thanks for sharing it with us. Huge fan of the fringed horse jacket. Have a great day 💚

MyGirlFryday

As a trans person with voice dysphoria (though in the opposite direction of the song lol) I definitely felt this. It was a really really lovely song!

helioangel

Another non-binary person here with voice dysphoria, i considered t just for that, but i play women's sports and that adds another layer of complication.. I've been making some very slow progress with vocal training, but i mean very slow. Really appreciate hearing your honest feelings on the subject, and i hope you do more karaoke and less attempts at breathing in smoke to deal with it <3

Tessara Dudley

I adore Bigger Sky!

Tessara Dudley

I am non-binary, but I took testosterone for about a year when I was younger, and one of the consequences I didn’t consider was that I went from being able to sing low soprano down to mid tenor, and now I’m a bass. Lost all my high notes—I can’t even reliably sing tenor anymore. It’s definitely a bit comforting how many other people are talking about voice-specific dysphoria in the comments here

Alexander Nguyen

hooooly shit! as a baritone who struggles to sing the low low notes, this song fucking spoke to me

Alice @GinaTheHyena

Being trans, I used to have many, many issues with my own voice, but in recent years I've come to accept it, much in part as I simply like to exist outside the gender binary. Which is to say, this song did resonate a lot to me, and the ending made me feel especially moved, so thank you c':

Ellie!

this is such a lovely video all around, from lyrics to the video itself! thank you for sharing it with us!

salsarin

omg I love it

Hell People

Holy cannoli this is so beautiful!

Alexander Carr

So glad I’m part of this patreon in case you never post this. It’s beautiful~

Richard Doubek

As someone who has been a baritone since middle school, I feel this deeply from the other end of the spectrum

Julia-n

the irony of me having gone on T to get a huskier voice

supercres

beautifully shot to boot 👏

Sephie

Same, and "Bigger Sky" ❤️

Ofir Partom (Saint Argentum)

as a trans soprano this unfortunately hits so hard

Ariamaki

I will look forward to when it goes live, because I genuinely enjoyed this a lot.

chef_kef

soo good

Tessara Dudley

This is a masterpiece! I immediately want to share it with someone, but I obviously can’t/won’t, so I’m gonna sit here and admire it and then probably listen to it three more times. Thanks for sharing this beauty with us, and I hope that you can come to a place of acceptance with whatever choice you make about it.

Francis Klincewicz

This is so beautiful! His voice makes me feel seen when I think about my own voice. I hope he doesn't actually get into smoking cigarettes just to change his voice, the addiction just isn't worth it.

Es

This is a lovely song.. You know your songs so far in your vouce have healed broken hearts though right? As well as broken them in the gentlest most beautiful way.

OrbitalHippie

Voice dysphoria blues

Julia

oh man I felt this in my soul; I'll be haunted forever by the times in high school I tried to cover Fiona Apple. For whatever it's worth (probably very little I know) I think you do great on more earnest or less upbeat /humorous songs with or without the huskiness. It's still hopeful so it may not be what you mean, but I still listen to "See the Day" when I want to feel an Emotion.

Jenny Hill

this is gorgeous.

Amber Miller

I really love this, it resonates with me in a few big ways tbh. also the jacket rules

Jessie Pomegranate

was not expecting to tear up over a new BDG song today. this is beautiful in every way, y’all did a wonderful job on this <3

H.Kat.Frasure

Never thought I'd get choked up watching a guy in a horse jacket unsuccessfully smoke a cigarette but here we are.

Zoe smith-stoe

This is amazing!

rionsanura

hey now, i was already crying about how what people perceive my voice to be is not what i mean to communicate with it

brainstrain

i'm ready for BDG's cowboy era

TJ LaLonde

Beautifully shot, beautifully sung, beautifully composed!

Maia

"i cannot wield a song without humor to shield" really hit hard. incredible song and i hope to see it released so i can add it to my folk and acoustic country playlist!!

Hannah G.

Dude this is phenomenal
