Dec. 2024 Progress Report

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO?
At the beginning of December, it was all about the BLIB concert on Dec. 5. We were racing to get ready for the show right after Thanksgiving. We rehearsed a ton, but due to the many busy schedules of the band, we only had one rehearsal with all of the members together. But we did it! Two shows in one night at the Teragram Ballroom. Since we added a bunch of solos to show off our amazing instrumentalists (you can find them all through my Instagram post), I brought my film camera to take photos on stage. You can see them at the top of this post! (And though we weren’t allowed to film the concert, there might be one song you can see on this Patreon).
Outside of that, I've been making plans for new videos in between trips for the holidays! Got to see my family for the first time in a while, and I’ve been trying to catch every little idea that these trips have inspired so I can dive into them in the new year.

And The Fall is finally out on YouTube!!!! SO MANY INDIE PROJECTS AND I’M SO HAPPY TO BE PART OF ALL OF THEM! Speaking of independent projects…
Remember that writing job that I mentioned Karen and I started in the September progress report? Well, we no longer have to worry about that, since we got laid off six days before Christmas! “Made redundant before a major holiday” isn’t a fun box to tick off on our Capitalism Bingo card, but we’re alright—if anything, it has lit a fire under me to make more things independently. We still want to write on other TV shows, and Karen & I will keep pitching things, but I’m trying to keep my head up and get back to work on shorts we can produce on our own.
WHAT’S UP NEXT?
To be honest: a lot of tidying. My office has reached a breaking point of clutter. I’m not the most organized person, but I’ve realized that I have trouble making things if I don’t have a clear space. Usually, this just means I place everything from one table to another table and back again, which doesn’t solve the problem, but gives me just enough cleanliness to get something finished. Look at this mess:
I often consider cleaning to be unproductive. I’ve certainly told myself it’s easier to just throw my camera bag on the ground and get straight to editing, and I’ll put it all away once I’m done with the project. This, in turn, leads to me spending hours during the next project trying to collect all the stuff I just left in random parts of my room/car/friend’s house.
I’m not usually one for resolutions, but in 2025, I’m trying to put things back instead of simply putting things down. I bought a label maker, I’ve measured my cabinets, and I’m gonna buy a bunch of organizers so I can easily find my microphones or lenses or weird vampire costumes. I’m going to give it the time it deserves, and I’ll try to post photos of my completed organization in January’s progress report.
And then it’s back to work on the videos! I have a ton of ideas and I’m sure I’ll take breaks from tidying to play my new synth and start making new music and get back to filming silly videos.

I tried to write a couple wrap-up messages about going into 2025, but they all got a little too heavy. So let's just say: keep up the good work, stay passionate, and fight like hell in the new year. I'll try my best to do the same. Thank you all for your support!

A cleaning tip that's helped me keep my car clean; Just grab 1-2 things to throw out or put away every time you're headed back into the house, or even if you know there's garbage can outside the store you're headed into. Could adapt it for other areas too, cleaning doesn't have to be an "all at once" task.

As someone who struggles with ADHD and staying organized: labeling things is SO helpful. My dad always said "a place for everything, and everything in its place" and I repeat that mantra daily along with "don't put it down, put it AWAY". You got this! Also if you're looking for tips on decluttering, I really like Marie Kondo's method, though I've tweaked it a bit to fit me better

It's great if you can develop the 'cleaning my space' form of procrastination, I'm generally a messy person but there's nothing like an impending deadline to get my house looking very neat

Cleaning, although not traditionally productive in a literal sense does help. I had a manager who used to say "slow down to speed up" and what he meant by that was organizing office spaces so that everything was where it should be. That way, if a client called and you were needed, you could put down everything, pick up a laptop and tools then rush to wherever the person was. I work in IT, but I think the analogy follows in video production. I'm saying this as I stare into my completely disheveled studio/office space! ohhhhh I hope you discover the great joys of a labelmaker. I am also vulnerable to "cleaning's a waste of time, I gotta DO stuff" brain, so I hope that the impulse to put stuff Back instead of just Down is contagious! I'm pumped for new videos, but also for taking breaks! Pumped for tidying, but also for silly! In addition to fighting like hell, I'm gonna try and set it up to spell each other to also REST, so that we can fight even stronger!
