“They didn’t shoot us down,” Cody called from the nearby bathroom. The beefy brunette popped out to address his friend directly, speaking around the toothbrush in his mouth. The dark-haired man let out a short laugh. “Then how come you didn’t take any of ‘em?”

“And weird, just like him,” Luke nodded.
Cody picked up the strip of photos from the nightstand that separated their beds, a slight shiver running through him as he looked at their altered images. Instead of a pair of clean-cut former jocks, two hairy hulks filled the frame. While his own chocolate crop was more or less untouched, Luke’s thinning raven hair had vanished entirely, replaced by a smooth scalp that accentuated the other man’s sloping forehead. Cody’s brow had thickened and twisted in a similar manner, and both of their noses had widened and flattened. Their mouths seemed a bit too large, just like the ears that stuck out in prominent fashion on either side of their heads, and they’d both sprouted dense facial hair. The bald Luke in the photo sported a black, bushy beard that outsized Cody’s, though the brunette still had a densely trimmed facial forest of his own. The end result was an appearance that bordered on cro-magnon or simian, an apparently perfect complement to the bodies that loomed below. Each rotation only cemented his fear, as it became unmistakably clear that Luke’s hairline had started to recede at a rapid pace. “Uh…dude…you…you’re…your hair is…it’s…going away,” Cody finally sputtered, his hands shaking.
“Get fucked,” Luke groaned. “Like I’m falling for…that…” he trailed off, his eyes going wide when he reached up and felt a bare patch of forehead where hair should have been. He slid his hand nearly halfway back his skull before reaching the remains. “FUCK! What the fuck is this?!” he cried, leaping off the bed and darting into the bathroom. “How is it…where is it…FUCK! FUCK! DUDE…IT’S…it’s…gone,” he said, his face pale beneath the now-bare scalp when he reemerged. “It just went away. It didn’t even fall out…it just…disappeared,” he stammered.
Luke seemed oblivious to the other changes taking place as he spoke, but Cody caught every one. He watched his now-bald friend’s brow jut out as the other man’s nose flattened in a horrifyingly familiar manner, his stubble thickening by the second until it started to extend away from his altered mouth. “It’s not just your hair, man! Your…your face…it’s…” Cody leapt to his feet, immediately stumbling. The dazed brunette swayed unsteadily, trying to figure out where his center of gravity had gone.
