There they would find bottles of the finest spirits, enormously expensive cigars, and, recently, their new boss, who had taken to rewarding the hard work of his men in his own way.
It was true that once he had choked down meat in order to earn his place among them. But now, comfortably and solidly their leader, he indulged in a different sort of appetite. Idle conversation and warm music made a cozy atmosphere, accompanied by an occasional gasp of Louis coming up for air, or the low, throaty growl of a lion as he pumped a load down Louis's throat.
Being a gangster of the black market was hard and dangerous work, but as they took in the comforts that their boss had provided for them, they felt that there was never a finer time to be alive.
