WDYM? this is all book lore, this is your highly subjective opinion, that only after season 3 does it go "deep" into book lore, whatever that means

if i can make a suggestion and you just watch season 3 i think after that thats when they start getting deeper into book lore while the first three still help set the show up imo

You heard that wrong when Robb was talking about The Greyjoy Rebellion. He didn't say that Ned thought Balon hadn't healed from the wounds of the Mad King. He said the Balon thought the seven kingdoms hadn't healed from the Mad King, and that's why he decided to rebel. Basically reiterating what Stannis said about Balon. So Ned wasn't being generous to Balon. P.S. please keeping doing these!! It's so great to watch react to them.
