2018 Hasbro Pre-Thoughts - How'd I Do?
🕑 Added 2022-03-05 18:07:13 +0000 UTCMy initial thoughts on Hasbro was we'd get the figures I thought Bandai should have done (heads/weapons, sell the Zords separately, and do monsters!!!) but based on every last Hasbro Transformers thing at every price point at Toys R Us, Target, Walmart, etc, I saw no possible way we were getting Zords that were better than Bandai's for the same price point (or less?!?). They'd either be quality people were unhappy with, or we'd be paying more.
I think I nailed it. Thumbs up for the Dino Fury Zords, they did do a nice job with those, but the set is still $70, and there's hardly any paint. Also fair to say there's not much missing either, they're mostly solid colors with some silver or gold here and there. Beast Morphers only got 5 Zords, and while I appreciate the articulation, they still looked/felt kinda cheap but were $150 and had almost no paint on them. The MMPR Megazord was $50 in the store, was small, paint/stickerless, and looked/felt kinda cheap. Legacy Megazord was full painted, fully stickered, had die-cast metal and chrome, was $59, in fancier packaging.
So, that was the point I was trying to make a few years ago. Having said that, I was still hopeful that Hasbro could do more than Bandai since they owned the license, where Bandai had to pay Saban to license Power Rangers. Hasbro's a much bigger company.
In conclusion, I don't think either company wins, they both did/do good things. I prefer Hasbro's figures. Bandai's Legacy Zords were more affordable than Hasbro's main line and fancier, and Bandai did a good job making more affordable versions of the Bandai Japan toys to meet the $30-ish price point. Red Dino Fury Zord costs the same as an entire Bandai Megazord, which transformed, still had paint, an action feature or two, etc.
