Production Tooltip - Doom Eternal - From Rake to Madness
🕑 Added 2021-03-03 16:00:04 +0000 UTCHi Friends,
Here is another short tooltip, which I would like to share with you. In fact, in Doom Eternal, there are tons of these modulated distorted phaser sounds. The Source of the Sound can be everything. However, in this example, I show you one trick on how to add interest to a rather conventional Sound.
I have attached 3 files (see bottom of my post). Everything is based on a slightly crunched Rake sound on a guitar string. For anybody who is not familiar with what a rake sound is or how you produce it, just go check out this article here.
The rake sound goes through an amp connected with a cabinet and mic´ed and back into the sound interface. Of course, you can use plugins as well. (check Sound Example 1) Now comes the fun part:
First, you apply a phase-shifter (click here to read a bit about the basics of what it does). The result is Soundexample (2). Then apply a heavy distortion on that Phase shifted Guitar Sound and you get something similar to Soundexample (3).
Conclusion: There is no right or wrong. My advice: Experiment with sounds. You can change parameters or the source sound of course.
I hope that was useful!
Short Update: There is a new Track coming this Friday to you! :-)
Horns up,
Alexander
