There's a couple of reasons for the disguise. The first to hide the fact that she's an elf. The others reasons will become clear later in the chapter. The office workers don't remember for the same reason Pixie doesn't. The spell Miriam cast on her.

Disguise? Why? On a related note, I still wonder whether there were any consequences to the whole office "seeing" Elise in full regalia slinging spells... of course, it wasn't actually her, but her coworkers don't know that, and she knew when she signed off on it that they wouldn't...
