Chapter 20: Bring a son back to the master
🕑 Added 2025-10-12 11:31:21 +0000 UTCThe Batmobile burned with flames, a fallen titan in the pre-dawn darkness. Batman's back had been broken by a knee strike from Bane. He was lifted and thrown to the ground like a broken doll.
Thwip-thwip-thwip—
A barrage of Batarangs shot at Bane, but his densely muscled back ignored the feeble projectiles. He stepped up to Batman, foot by foot, and spoke condescendingly.
"Dramatic gadgets and blindfolds can only deceive laymen who have never seen the world."
"But we're not ordinary people, right, Bruce Wayne?" As he spoke, Bane turned to look at Connors, who was approaching. His voice became a low rumble because of the mask's obstruction. "It's rare for Gotham to have a guy who shows his true colors."
Bane had already walked up to Batman, raising one foot high. "If you are here to help him, then you have to look carefully, because you will end up the same way."
Connors nodded honestly. "Awesome."
Bane didn't understand, but that didn't stop him from slamming his foot down. If this kick landed, Batman, who already had his spine broken, would have only a dead end.
In the nick of time, a hook shot flew out and pulled Batman away from under Bane's feet. But Bane also jumped up with the power of his stomp. He was obviously a mountain of meat, but his agility seemed to be maxed out as he leaped from a high place to where the hook and cable were hanging.
"That's one favor you owe me," Connors's voice rang in Batman's ears. Just as he was wondering what the phrase meant, Connors had taken action.
The hook and cable were originally attached to a stone not far away, but at this point, the stone had impossibly changed its position, and Batman followed suit. Bane landed with a crash, and while he still wanted to continue, he found his feet in a quagmire that hadn't been there a second before.
Where did the quagmire come from? This doubt flashed through his mind, and then he bowed his lower body and used all fours, charging at Batman like a beast. But the stone changed position again, causing Bane to stop with a frown. He then fixed a pair of scarlet eyes on Connors.
"I said, dramatic—"
"Okay, okay, I know, I know," Connors had a tone of coaxing a child, and then continued with the arrangement in his hand—the arrangement of the grandmaster's little trick.
Since Bane had grown up, it was always others who treated him as a devil. This was the first time he had been spoken to in this tone. He became angry and prepared to kill this guy who had been interfering with him.
Seeing Batman and Connors hiding behind the muscle car he had just driven, Bane strode forward, caught the car's chassis with one hand, and flipped it over. However, to his surprise, there was no sign of Connors or Batman underneath.
"Your blindfold is really good," Bane complimented heartily, then raised the muscle car with both hands again. After he had plowed all the surrounding ground in a frenzy, he still didn't notice the two men, as if they had disappeared out of thin air. The flat ground was now so soft it looked like you could grow vegetables in it, and the muscle car was torn to pieces.
Bane gasped for breath. He even jumped into the lake and made a scene, but there was no one hidden in the water, as if they had evaporated.
"Man, if you don't leave, I'll have to reveal my secret…" Connors looked helplessly at Bane, who wished he could dig three feet into the ground to find him, and thought to himself.
He had started hiding behind the muscle car with Batman, and had begun moving toward the burning Batmobile as Bane lifted the car. Until now, he and Batman had been hiding behind the burning flames of the Batmobile, and with the help of the "Little Trick Master"'s abilities, Bane did not see them. But as time went by, the burning flames grew weaker and weaker, and after a while, they would no longer be able to cover them.
Fortunately, Bane finally lost his patience. He left, then came back suddenly. After still not seeing anyone several times in a row, he finally left completely. At that moment, the burning flames of the Batmobile were on the verge of extinguishing.
"Your car is not very flame-resistant," Connors said to the feeble Batman. "Next time, it is recommended to change it to a more resistant material, such as oak."
Master Wayne glanced at him feebly and pressed a button. The lake surged, and a slope-like lifting platform broke through layers of silt, emerging from the bottom of the water. The lid that blocked the water at the entrance automatically opened.
"…" Batman did not speak, and Connors, knowing his intentions, carried him on his back towards the entrance.
In the Batcave, Alfred the butler looked at the two people coming down from the lifting platform. Knowing what was going on outside, he quickly pushed a stretcher over. Soon, work began on the fully automated operating table. Alfred smiled at Connors and extended a hand.
"Master Patterson, do I need to prepare a bathrobe and cigarettes for you?"
"…Hey." As soon as Connors heard this, he knew that the old butler, who was quite tough in every move, was joking with him, and he shook his hand. After he had finished his work several times in the past, half-naked and lighting an after-smoke, he and Batman had stared at each other. As the man behind Batman, Alfred must have known about these things for a long time.
"I came to him because there was a problem to solve—don't worry, I didn't come to fight him," Connors explained the purpose of his visit. "But it was an accident that he bumped into Bane. It seems that what needs to be solved in the short term now is the problem of Batman's replacement."
Gotham City could be without Batman for one night, but not for days on end. Otherwise, those restless elements would surely cause trouble. Alfred knew this, and naturally, so did Connors, who had seen the comics.
"Let's make arrangements when he wakes up. Master Patterson, please go to the living room and rest for a while," Alfred the butler said, reaching out a hand to lead him.
"No need… I found that there seemed to be toxins in his body." Rejecting the housekeeper's kindness, Connors uttered words that made the other party immediately wary.
Mr. Wayne has spores in his body, which contain the smell of the Green of All Things… So he went to find Poison Ivy, but was attacked by her? Connors looked at Bruce Wayne, who was lying motionless on the operating table. With a thought, countless miserable green spores flew out of Bruce's mouth and nose and into Connors's hands, then transformed into an off-white color and completely failed.
Alfred was relieved when he saw this. He had just been worried that the man was taking advantage of the situation, and now it seemed he was just being suspicious.
Time passed quickly. Thanks to his strong physical presence, Bruce Wayne came to himself at nine o'clock in the morning. The first words he said as he looked at Connors were, "How did you do it?" He also remembered a barrage of unbelievable maneuvers after Connors's appearance.
Want to learn? I'll teach you… Connors laughed and changed the subject. "I think you need to worry more about Gotham's successor than this, right?"
"I'll give you a day to solve this problem. Then, in the evening, I'll talk to you about another one, about the destruction of the world."
With that, Connors turned away from Wayne Manor. Before leaving, he stopped by to ask Alfred to borrow a car in lieu of walking. He had waited a long time just to say this to Mr. Wayne. He had another thing to do next.
After making a request to eat her soft meal with the star singer Shayna, the premise of her agreement was that Connors must clear the channel again and accompany her to watch today's circus performance. Unblocking the channel was done before leaving; only the circus act was left.
There's nothing good about the circus, and Connors wasn't interested, but the name of the circus wasn't simple: "The Flying Graysons."
According to how things are going, Connors thought, although it goes astray, it is generally in line with the development of the comic plot. Maybe when I come back at night, I will bring Mr. Wayne a son back.
