Chapter 22 No future
🕑 Added 2025-10-12 14:09:53 +0000 UTCThis Batarang did not have sharp edges and was not intended to kill. Connors spun the flashing red device around his fingertips and smiled.
"I know nothing about computers, but even if I hacked into your systems, you would definitely detect it." As he spoke, he tossed the Batarang to Batman, who caught it.
This was the bat-tracker that Batman had previously placed in Connors's house while he was away. It wasn't an accident that he had turned on the stadium's surveillance; it was this tracker that had sent him Connors's location, and it was a coincidence that he had watched the "Flying Grayson" couple crash.
On Connors's side, the existence of this thing had long been discovered due to his spider-induction. Because he always had to be everywhere to eat melons, he would inevitably encounter some situations where he could not prove his innocence. Instead of destroying the tracker, he had taken it with him. At this moment, it was obviously this tracker that came into play.
Bruce Wayne caught the tracker, and the guns that had been sticking out of every corner of the room were retracted.
Like Connors had anticipated the scene before he came, Bruce Wayne, too, had taken a look at the signal from the tracker before Connors arrived. The scene with the guns just now was just a precaution. Since the misunderstanding had been resolved, there was no need to be so tense. And Bruce Wayne was also desperate to know what Connors meant about "the destruction of the world."
"Does the destruction you are talking about have anything to do with that Superman in Metropolis?" Bruce Wayne and Connors entered the Batcave together, and after a few pleasantries along the way, the topic officially turned to Connors's purpose for being here.
"Huh?" Connors didn't react at once. He was talking about the news from the Marvel universe next door. What did it have to do with Superman? Soon, he looked at the computer screen in the Batcave, where a page about "Superman's ability analysis" was captured before Bruce Wayne quickly shut it down. He understood what the old man was talking about. Apparently, Clark, the omnipotent Superman who could go up to heaven and earth, was being treated as an imaginary enemy by a Batman who had not yet crossed paths with him.
"He is a pretty good guy. I'm not sure if the destruction of the world is related to him. I came to you just to tell you the news and see if we can prevent it in advance," Connors said.
"Do you know him?" Batman asked, pointing to a photo of Superman on his computer.
"How could I know him?" Connors said. If he knew Superman, he would have run over to eat melons like crazy by now. After all, the Melon-eating System's rewards were suspected to be related to the strength of the people producing the melon. The stronger the person, the better the reward. On a logical level, the stronger the person, the greater the impact of every move. A fight between two ordinary people, two superheroes, and two supermen would be three completely different levels of rewards.
"I don't know much. Doctor Fate has the ability to predict. Can you find him?" Connors got to the point.
"Who is Doctor Fate?" Bruce Wayne didn't even recognize the title.
"Omen? Lilith Clay?"
"…" Batman was silent.
"Zatanna?"
"…"
"Where's Barry Allen, the Flash?"
"I know that one!" Bruce Wayne was relieved that he finally had someone he knew. At the same time, a question came to his mind: why did this Connors know so much? Where did such a person pop up from?
Connors was also relieved. He was afraid that the Batman in this world had not yet intersected with "The Flash" Barry Allen. "This will be easier to handle. Although Barry has no ability to predict, he can take a look at the future for us to see when the danger will come."
"…" Batman had always led others by the nose. This was the first time he had been so clearly arranged by someone else. He was depressed on the spot, then took out his phone in front of Connors.
"Barry? I need your help."
Before the phone was even hung up, the next moment a man wrapped in a red suit appeared before Connors.
"Long time no see, Barry," Connors said, looking at this Barry, who looked similar to the one in the TV series. He felt a good impression and offered to say hello.
"…Hi?" Barry looked inexplicably at Connors. "Have we ever met somewhere?"
"No, I've just coveted your speed for a long time," Connors said. Barry shrank back in fear.
Bruce Wayne, looking at the two people who had started chatting without waiting for his own introduction, didn't give them a chance to continue and forcefully inserted himself into the topic.
"Barry, I need you to take a look at our… no, take a look at the future of this world."
"I'm always going back in time. Running towards the future is a first for me," Barry said. He took off his hood, then put it on again when he heard this, and disappeared.
Under normal circumstances, Barry's disappearance and appearance were only for a split second. But this time, he eerily didn't reappear for a long time.
One minute. Two minutes. Ten minutes.
Barry did not reappear until nearly fifteen minutes later, sitting on the ground with his eyes glazed.
"Barry!" Batman hurriedly stepped forward to help him up. The Flash was as limp as a puppet, as if he had lost the ability to think. Until Connors and Bruce Wayne put their two heads together and stared at Barry, calling his name, Barry seemed to have recovered. But his expression was still dull, his eyes were lifeless, and he murmured:
"We don't have a future."
One sentence left the two men stunned on the spot. What did it mean to have no future?
Barry finally recovered through the efforts of Connors and Bruce and became a sunny and cheerful teenager again before returning to Central City. Bruce Wayne went silent, and Connors duly said goodbye.
Marvel's side was just the destruction of the world; DC's side simply had no future. This somewhat caught Connors off guard. Both sides were on the same Earth at this time, and they might be in a relationship of shared glory and loss.
But he would settle for what comes. All he had to do at present was to keep eating melons and eating big melons, so that he could keep getting stronger and become strong enough to cope with the various situations that would arise.
In Gotham City tonight, Batman did not show up, but the Batwing soared in the air, and the Batmobile passed through the streets and alleys, shocking the city so that no one dared to act lightly.
One exception, though. Connors swaggered through the streets of Gotham, hungry after a long day, as he prepared to find a restaurant to fill his stomach—Batman didn't treat him to dinner. And the supercar he had borrowed from Alfred had been stolen.
Then, he was stopped by a red-haired female spy.
"Screeeech—"
The harsh sound of tire friction rang in Connors's ears, and the stolen supercar came to a stop in front of him in an unusually handsome tail flick. "Black Widow" Natasha rolled down the window and looked at him with a smile on her face.
"Do you need a ride?"
Connors also smiled as he looked at Natasha. "You came at the wrong time."
With that, the car was stuck to a mass of spider silk falling from the sky and flew into the air.
It wasn't just "Black Widow" Natasha who was looking for him. "Spider-Silk" Cindy, who had been "hungry" all day yesterday, was also looking for him, and by chance, the two of them had arrived together.
So, history repeated itself. Only this time, Connors was not sitting in the car.
