Chapter 6 Man Who Laughs
🕑 Added 2025-10-12 11:19:44 +0000 UTCIt wasn't that Harley Quinn didn't find out; she had simply endured it until now.
Various yoga poses were readily available. Connors was clearly not the one enjoying himself, and he tried to make his expression look painful in order to cooperate. If it weren't for the circumstances, he would even like to light a cigarette, pick up a glass of red wine, and taste it while feeling it.
With nothing else to do at this point, he simply turned on the system as he watched the clock gradually move closer to midnight.
[Eating Melon Today: With Cindy Moon's Encounter] [Submit?]
[Tip: Since the quantity and quality of melons eaten today have reached the upper limit, tasks are automatically submitted and rewards have been distributed.]
[After the "Laughing Man Incident" ends, the Melon-eating System rewards will be upgraded to lv2.]
Upgraded melon-eating rewards?
Connors was overjoyed and barely managed to maintain the painful expression on his face. He counted today's melons: "Harley Quinn's black stockings," "With Cindy Moon's encounter," and the Joker releasing his laughing gas to start committing crimes, which was part of the bombing of Williams Medical Center, "the Laughing Man incident."
Except for the first melon, which was somewhat unremarkable, the latter two could be called a "today's big melon." It would have been really hard for Connors to decide which one to submit. Fortunately, since the system had already submitted automatically, he didn't need to put too much thought into this matter.
As for the system reward upgrade he'd get after eating the "Laughing Man Incident" melon, he wasn't worried at all. Even without an upgrade, he planned to chase Batman and the Joker all the way to eat melons.
"Is her tongue more flexible than mine?" Harley Quinn's voice was a low murmur; she was still busy.
[Eating Melon Today: With Cindy Moon's Encounter] [Reward for eating melons: Green of All Things (1%)]
"…"
Connors suddenly had some regrets at this moment about why he rented this house in a minimalist style. Living room, kitchen, bedroom, dining room—not a single plant in sight.
"Green of All Things." He was no stranger to it. In DC Comics, the powers of Poison Ivy, Swamp Thing, and others were all derived from this elemental power that could control plants. One percent of the Green of All Things could not make him perform the spectacular act of manipulating plants to surround Gotham like Poison Ivy. Fortunately, through constant induction, he discovered that there was a cactus in the house of the neighbor next door.
Growth, twisting.
He could feel the plant responding to his will. By the time Harley was finished with him, the cactus had been controlled by him to grow to its limit.
The control of plants is within a hundred meters with myself as the center, and the plants cannot exceed their own limits. In other words, I cannot let any grass grow into a murderous sword…
After some experimentation, Connors saw the reward as tasteless and a little too weak. However, since there was a percentage display, it meant that it could be improved in the future, which gave him some comfort.
This was his first strictly human-concept "superpower." Connors controlled the cactus from the air to grow into various shapes until Harley Quinn, sweating and exhausted, finally fell into a deep sleep.
In the house next door to the home that Connors rented, the hostess who got up in the middle of the night walked out of the bedroom sleepily. On the way to the bathroom, she glanced at the living room by accident. Then her legs trembled. She carefully retreated towards the bedroom, slamming the door shut, then took out her phone.
"Hey? Gotham Police Department? I'm going to call the police…" she whispered frantically. "Batman is squatting on my windowsill, and I'm not kidding!"
The Gotham Police Department's efficiency was truly not low. The harsh sirens sounded quickly, but a figure arrived before the sirens.
Upon receiving the news from Captain Gordon that someone had impersonated Batman and had climbed out of a nineteen-story window, Batman immediately put down his job analyzing the blood of corpses that had died during the day.
When he arrived at the scene, he found that the person pretending to be him was not a human at all, but a cactus that had burst its flowerpot, only to grow into a pair of pointed ears above its head under the influence of unknown forces.
[Today's Melon: Batman's Shock] [Submit?]
Harley Quinn's rope that had tied Connors had already been loosened. At this time, he was standing by the window with a cigarette. He didn't know if Batman was wrong or just stunned. He was quite stunned anyway. What did I do to make Mr. Wayne stunned again?
He soon understood.
Outside the window on the 19th floor, a huge shadow floated past, and it was Batman. Passing by Connors' window, Batman subconsciously turned his head and took a look, and was shocked to see Connors standing by the window with his bare butt, smoking a hindsight cigarette.
So, I made my neighbor's cactus look like Batman, which made him come over to check it out in person in the middle of the night… Connors, somewhat dumbfounded, closed the curtains and blocked Batman's view.
Out the window, Bruce Wayne glanced suspiciously at the window that had closed its curtains, and then at the cactus house that had undergone abnormal changes. For a moment, he didn't understand whether there was any relationship between the two. But he was halfway through an experiment at this time, and the time was running out, leaving him with no time to continue wasting it.
Since he wasn't very tired last night, Connors got up early today and sat in the living room watching the morning news while waiting for Harley Quinn to wake up.
"…Many patients who fled were arrested by the Gotham Police Department all night long, but the Joker, the leader in the Arkham Asylum breakout, and the other fleeing prisoners were still missing…"
On television, the dignified and elegant host stood not far from Arkham Asylum holding a microphone and said, "Construction workers have begun to rework it… Ahem!"
The anchor cleared her throat.
"Sorry… cough!"
She coughed again, harder this time.
"Ahem!… hehe, hehehe…"
Live on television, in front of the entire city of Gotham, the host began to cough uncontrollably, bending over at the waist. By the time she got back up, her face was covered in an abnormal pale color, her eyes were so wide they were bulging, and her mouth was grinning at an exaggerated angle.
Although her trembling body and the act of holding her chest down hard showed that she was in agony, she had a strange smile on her face, like a monster coming out of a horror movie.
Behind her, an equally pale palm caressed the host's shoulder, then pushed it away, allowing her to fall straight.
Appearing on the screen at this point, it was a blatant clown in a purple suit, with green hair, a pale complexion, and an exaggerated smile!
"Morning, morning, morning, good Gotham!"
CLICK-CLACK.
The sound of a round being chambered echoed behind Connors. Harley Quinn, not knowing when she had already gotten up, carried a machine gun in both hands.
BANG!
A bullet hit the clown's eyebrows in the picture, and then the TV sizzled twice, completely turning into a piece of tattered food.
Half a city away, "Spider-Silk" Cindy Moon dodged and unplugged the power the moment the Joker appeared on TV.
She didn't sleep all night last night. Her powerful spider-sense allowed her to clearly feel how much Connors enjoyed last night, even from so far away. The sensations had come down all night and made her suffer so much, and at the same time, she was unwilling to do so.
Throwing a large wet sheet from the middle of her bed into a basin, Cindy quickly put on her suit and went straight to Connors' location.
