Chapter 12 The Scarecrow's Life-Saving Straw
🕑 Added 2025-10-12 11:24:49 +0000 UTC…Is that what spider silk is used for?"
Seeing the star singer Shayna tied up in a rather artistic bondage style by Cindy, Connors didn't know for a moment what his reaction should be.
Harley Quinn, however, looked at the tied-up singer, and her eyes lit up. She turned to Cindy Moon.
"Teach me how to tie like that!"
As for Shayna, trussed up and hanging in the air, neither Harley nor Cindy gave her a second glance.
"You…" Connors looked at the star singer, unsure how to deal with the situation. He simply pulled a leaf from a nearby potted plant. The leaf grew rapidly in his hand until it was a large, dense ball of vegetation. He stuffed it into Shayna's mouth, blocking any potential screams. To make sure it was secure, Connors even left two vine-like ropes on the ball and tied them behind her head. The bitter juice from the leaves made Shayna's eyes water and her face scrunch up in disgust.
At this point, instead of caring for his new captive, Connors scurried to the heights in two or three strokes, waiting for the arrival of the Scarecrow.
One step faster than him was Cindy Moon. The girl put on her red mask and rushed out with extreme speed. Connors didn't even have time to stop her.
Harley Quinn threw away the saw blade that had been clutched in her hand, watching Connors and Cindy disappear. When she turned her head again, the star singer Shayna, who had been tied with spider silk, was gone. There was only a patch of frost in her place, still exuding a frigid air. In a trance, Harley Quinn seemed to see a flash of Batman, before her face hardened with resolve.
Soon, Harley adjusted her mood as she saw the Scarecrow getting closer with the tanker, less than a hundred meters away from the stadium.
During the brief time she, Connors, and Cindy were hanging in the air, Connors had already informed the duo of his plan. Harley Quinn was in charge of getting Scarecrow's attention. Cindy Moon would handle any possible helpers. And what Connors had to do was relatively simple, just two words: lock down.
Lock the tank interface of the tanker, lock the doors, lock everything that could be locked. As a "Lockpicking Master," Connors not only unlocked locks but could also lock certain special locks in special ways. He could even easily break any lock so that it could no longer be opened.
He would eat the melon of Batman and the Scarecrow, and even get involved in a way that wasn't appearing as a hero. Based on this, Connors had no intention of using his other abilities, like fighting or manipulating plants. The plan was perfect; it just depended on how it was implemented.
As Cindy had predicted with her powerful spider-sensing, the Scarecrow drove the tanker to the alley next to the stadium. A long hose was hung down from a height, apparently answered by someone above.
"Hi~ Mr. Scarecrow." Harley Quinn, as planned, took the initiative and showed up to grab his attention.
The Scarecrow was far more intimidating in person than in the comics and movies. He was nearly two meters tall, with long, spindly limbs. He wore a linen hood on his face and was covered with potions, hoses, and braces. Part of a hose was connected to the fingertips of his ten fingers, each tipped with a sharp needle.
"Harley~ Quinn?" the Scarecrow rasped, not using her previous name as a psychological counselor, but instead calling her the new name she had announced to all of Gotham in front of the cameras.
"Wow, Mr. Scarecrow, I'm so grateful! Except for my Red, you're the first person to call me that~" Harley Quinn said with pompous manners.
The Scarecrow, having recovered from his thoughts, asked, "How do you know I'm here?"
Connors had only arranged for Harley to delay and did not give specific instructions; everything was up to her to play freely. Hearing the Scarecrow ask this question, she knew full well that if she answered something wrong, she would suffer a shot of "fear gas."
"Biu~" Harley gestured with her hand like a gun, then pointed to the closed stadium. "It's rare for so many people to get together in Gotham and not make some big news. That wouldn't fit the identity of people like us."
Hearing what Harley said, the Scarecrow nodded approvingly. "Yes, but in the end, everyone has to rely on their own abilities to succeed. The Joker was eliminated first, and my only opponent is Batman. You're wrong about one thing, though, Harley. 'Us'? You're just a vassal of the Joker."
"Is that so~? Dear Scarecrow, who else is participating in this operation?" Harley Quinn's laugh was exceptionally bright.
"Bane is four blocks away. Penguin only knows how to rely on his men. They were all preempted by me…" the Scarecrow said, reaching out to catch the pipe that his henchman had put down from the high-rise building. He walked to the back of the tanker to get ready to connect it.
When he found that the tanker's interface was locked solid, he remembered that the key was in the car and had to go back to the driver's seat. With Harley Quinn next to her, Scarecrow was afraid to turn his back. He got into the driver's seat, and just as he was about to get the key out, the car door was kicked shut by Harley.
"Damn it!"
The Scarecrow cursed and reached out to open the car door, but it didn't move at all. The door on the other side likewise failed to open, and even the windows seemed to be welded shut.
Realizing that something was not right, Scarecrow immediately stepped on the accelerator and prepared to leave. But the brake pedal was locked, and no matter how hard he hit the accelerator, the car was stunned and motionless. He tried to pull the steering wheel off to smash the window, but the steering wheel was also locked.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
He elbowed the window three times in a row, but not even a crack appeared in the glass. He looked up and saw his henchmen hanging one by one in the air, wrapped in webbing, crying and howling.
"Who is it?!"
Scarecrow wasn't afraid of being caught. What he was afraid of was that he had made all these preparations for nothing. To be locked in his own car and then captured by Batman—if it was reported, he would be laughed to death by the other rogues.
Thoughts flashed through his mind that he could not let the message get out. Scarecrow immediately released his "fear gas" in the cab in an attempt to spread it outside through the car's air conditioning system.
However, the air conditioner was also locked.
Anything that was attached to a "lock" was fixed. There wasn't even a working push-button in the car.
Just when he was at his wits' end, a handsome man appeared like an angel next to the tanker. Scarecrow's life-saving straw had come.
"Need an unlock?"
"Need!" Scarecrow hurriedly shouted. Every second that passed, Batman was more likely to appear, and others were more likely to succeed. He couldn't delay any longer.
"Five million dollars," the angel-like man said.
"What?" Scarecrow didn't understand all of a sudden.
Connors cleared his throat, making sure his tone was perfect. "Lockpicking. Five million dollars a pop. Transfer the money first."
