VH1's Behind The Spirit - Hunter x Hunter ep. 110-112: Media Club Plus S01E35
🕑 Added 2025-01-22 20:03:05 +0000 UTCWelcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us.
It's been almost 20 episodes since the Extermination Team took a train to East Gorteau to prep for an attack on the castle and almost 40 since Gon and Killua warped to Kite, by chance, officially starting their journey to the most dangerous place on earth. What seemed like a simple plan, to give cover for Netero to fight the King by separating the royal guards, is now a confusing mess. Netero showed up, Zeno Zoldyck in tow, in a hail of nen bombs, accidentally wounding Komugi. Because of this, the King chose to separate himself. Job done? Well, King or no, there's still a house full of ants to deal with.
This week we cover episodes 110-112, titled Confusion x And x Expectation, Charge x And x Invade, and Monster x And x Monster. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 113-115, titled An x Indebted x Insect, Divide x And x Conquer, and Duty x And x Question.

In regards to the "Gon's thoughts in his hair" panels, I was hoping someone would bring up that it's in the opening credits for this arc, though I know Jack isn't watching the openings for spoiler reasons. THIS is where the juice of Hunter x Hunter is for me, the next few episodes have some of THE most memorable stuff for me personally, very excited for the next few episodes!

Even Child Assassin Killua Zoldyck(tm) was older than that when he ascended Heaven’s Arena the first time.

In Michigan Catholic elementary schools some ~30 years ago, the Crucible never came up from what I can recall. I’ll have to check it out and see if it jogs any long lost memories.

Another Crucible check in from Alabama public school 😆, seems like it covered the whole US. Goody Proctor set her spirit on me in the night! Yellow bird! Yellow bird! EDIT: Also came back just to shoutout the 785 5-Star ratings on Pocket Casts.

So on Komugi's age, remember that she invented a revolutionary gungi technique TEN years ago. While she is obviously a nen-genius child prodigy, that means she really couldn't be any younger than like... 16+, right? The idea of a 4-year-old revolutionizing the game feels absurd even for HxH.

so many banger screenshots in this set of episodes

Checking in from Seattle, WA: I read The Crucible in seventh grade! I now remember absolutely nothing about it.

I'm gonna be honest, with how much this side of the cast loves HxH and other "battle shonen" like JJBA, I'm surprised y'all haven't done anything in the "One Guy One Power" genre. (Well, unless you count the Superhero stuff with Masks/Capers?) All of this is to say that I would absolutely eat up a Bonus "Play the Hunter Exam Minigame" episode of MC+. That sounds sick as shit.
JJMilez
It’s either an intentional setup or he simply forgot. Either way I’m looking forward to the payoff in a future episode 😅

I love that the crew pointed out that netero tends to come down from the sky like an angry god because i feel like that's also the best way to describe how he's depicted from pitous perspective. He looks terrifying in the way being Confronted with a vengeful god might

I know it’s probably just to set up a bit, but I feel like Austin is making a dangerous assumption about Netero’s abilities.

It would have been such a good bit to pan across the Extermination Team and then make the camera tilt down to show Ikalgo
Andrew
I was CONVINCED from the start that Hina was going to be just that hat, similarly to what Ikalgo ended up being.
Muna
wrt crucible talk I also read it in high school in California
