You have my sympathy for going through such a painful procedure. Not using the very best means to control the pain and stress seems counterproductive. When I was young (and dinosaurs roamed the Earth) we didn't get anesthetic for fillings, and for tooth extraction there was general anesthetic that made you feel ill for about a day afterwards. I chose my present dentist, not the cheapest, because he manages to avoid causing pain.

I did get local anesthesia. That's what they always give. The pill was the only extra thing I got because of this situation. But anesthesia doesn't work, once the nerve is hit! At that point the anesthesia is useless

Hey, you can say what ever you want about socialism (don't confuse with communism) but I'm glad I can have my local anesthesia. Until then no dentist dare to touch me... BTW terrible doctor if they let you leave in this state.
