Reflections on the game: What could have been done, what should be done
🕑 Added 2021-01-23 19:21:52 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
The 0.25 version of The Nights of Suburra was posted just 2 days ago (and will be public the 4st of February), so I think it’s a good moment to share with you some more info about the game in general. Something different than the traditional bi-weekly news this time.
So I wish to explain to you the ideas I had when I began my work on this project, including the ones I gave up and the ones that could still be developed.
Let’s begin from the beginning. I decided, about a year ago, after a post from another creator (RNest, if you want to know) explaining how he started his game (Succulence) with zero knowledge about the tools, that I could do it myself. I also had zero knowledge about RPGM and photoshop, and an old drawing tablet I’m still using. I learned it (and still got a looooot to learn) while developing the game (I really began a few weeks after I was forced to work from home, so april-may). You can normally see this process through the difference between the pictures from the first demo and the pictures today (I don’t pretend to have really good results today, but it seems to me much better than it was)
The idea I had about the game back then was a bit different than what we got now. The 2 main features were:
- A story that would be developed in seven days
- The endings at the end of the seven days were dependent on the level in the different parameters (if level max in filth (5), filth ending, if level max in none, normal ending, etc…)
So basically, as a sex scene represents half a day, it means 14 potential sex scenes each times. I say potential, as sleeping on the mat was a way to just spend time with changing the level on any parameter
Some elements are still there , like the night/day cycle, but I gave up on this time limit. Firstly because I didn’t know how to do it when I began the game, but also as it wouldn’t fit well with the repetitive scenes and some other elements of gameplay that don’t increase your level in the different parameters but still consume time. However, I might add this limitation as an option in the future, with maybe some differences in the scenes, or some scenes specifically for that mod (but as it’s probably more difficult and time consuming than I think to do it, well…)
Other than that, there are some elements I wanted to have from the beginning but constantly postpone, the main ones being sex sounds during the scenes (think it’s much better for the atmosphere) and some gameover and endings. For the first one, I tried to see that in detail recently, but the RPGM doesn’t allow multiple sounds at the same time. So I’ll probably have to mix some sounds together (for example pounding and moaning) to obtain something decent. I actually found a free software (Audacity) that might be helpful. Got to see what I can obtain from that.
For the gameover and endings, I got to find a way to be less lazy about it.... I’ll probably keep the system I wanted from the first (so different endings depending on the level in filth, exhib…) and add some cross-endings. It means for example when filth and exhib are at max together, or fame and masochism, etc… I got some concept for each ending, but don’t know it will be triggered yet
So you can see that nothing is written in advance and there is still a lot of work before the end, but it’s fun to do it overall, and I hope you enjoy it so far.
Of course, if you got any question, suggestion, idea, don’t hesitate to tell me on Patreon or Pixiv
I’ll come back to you for specific news about the next update next week
Stay safe
