Heloix’s POV
“Stop staring at me.” Adeline huffs, cheeks reddening as I stare at her.
I refuse to look away, wanting her to realize just how displeasured I am at her actions. Frowning, I cross my arms over my chest in mock anger.
“No.”
Adeline rolls her eyes, turning away so she can no longer see my stare. I know she hopes that her lack of attention will make me relent and leave her alone, but I refuse to give in.
I spent what felt like weeks begging her to make me some cookies, and when she finally gives in and cooks them for me, I come home to find them all gone, having been given away to her human boy.
She continues to ignore me, but I can sense her amusement. As much as she pretends not to, I know that she likes my attention.
Her hands move quickly as she folds the laundry that sits on the table, and I drop the pouting to observe her actions. It's pretty embarrassing to be doing such work at my status, but Adeline is adamant that I learn how to keep up the house.
She apparently also decided that we will start with the laundry.
It's not like I'm completely inept at it. I've washed some items a couple of times before, and understand the basics of folding clothing, but would still prefer to have one of the servants do it.
Sighing, I copy her actions on the jeans I hold in my hand, folding them into a neat square.
“Done.” I announce, tossing the object onto the table.
Adeline’s neck turns slightly to peer at it, and I frown as her displeasure reaches me through our bond. She doesn't like my work.
Stepping forward, I press my chest against her back and wrap my arms around her belly, pulling her against me.
“Is there any way I can convince you to bring Betty back?” I ask, hoping that if I use the human girl’s name that Adeline will be happy and give in.
“No, Heloix.” She snaps, spinning around in my arms to glare at me. “There’s absolutely no reason why we can't keep the place clean ourselves.”
I let out a quiet grumble at her words, my chest vibrating in displeasure. My Beast doesn’t love the idea of doing the housework either, but is so desperate for her approval that he isn't joining in on the fight against it.
“How about this-” I start, trailing my fingers up her arm, smirking as her skin pebbles up beneath my touch. “If I promise to wake you up every morning for the next month with my mouth on your clit, will you be in charge of the laundry?”
Adeline laughs, eyes shining as she looks up at me.
“You would do that anyway.”
I shrug in response, neither denying nor confirming the statement. In all honesty I would, and would probably go as far as to beg her to let me, but I’m not going to tell her that.
She seemed to enjoy my mouth on her the other day, and the knowledge that I’m able to pleasure her makes me smile. The memory of her hands tugging painfully on my hair as she fucked my face is enough to bring me to my knees. Adeline would no doubt take advantage of that if she knew the effect it had on me.
Leaning down, I press a small kiss to her lips, basking in the contentedness she feels in this moment. Her hands rest between our bodies, a shirt held tightly between them, and I reach down to pry it away from her.
She lets me do so without complaint, her body relaxed against me. Her frame is so small against mine, and I can’t help but to lean down and bury my face in her neck.
Inhaling her scent, I tense up as I recognize a slight change. Pulling back, I look at her from head to toe, searching for any signs of sickness. She seems a bit concerned by my weird behavior, but otherwise looks to be in good health. Burying my face against her skin, I smell her once more.
She laughs as my hair tickles her, the sound soft and light. I wrap my arms around her body and lift her slightly, bringing her closer to me so I can better source out the change in scent.
Gasping, I pull her body away from mine, holding her up so her feet dangle a couple of inches above the ground. Her arousal fills me as she watches my eyes change, but I’m too excited to react to it.
My mate is pregnant.
Once more I bring her against me, taking my biggest inhale yet.
“Do I smell good?” She teases, resting her hands on my chest.
My Beast pushes at me, desperate to break free and claim her. His panic is intense, the fear of not being able to protect her overwhelming the excitement I feel.
“Heloix?” Adeline asks, sounding uncertain. “Are you okay?”
I pull my face from her neck and smile at her, worried that she will see through my facade. Thankfully she doesn’t seem to notice, and I carefully set her down on her feet, not wanting to unsettle her body.
“Your eyes are black.” She notes.
I shrug. “My Beast likes your smell.”
Grinning, I lean down and press a firm kiss to her lips. Her small hands reach out and grip my waist as she tries to push her tongue in my mouth, but I pull away before it can go any further.
I must read up on human pregnancies.
“I have some work to finish up really quick. I’ll be back in a bit.” I promise, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
She frowns at my words, and I resist the urge to give in and spill the truth to her right now. This couldn’t be better timing. I was finally able to track down a CD player for her, and will surprise her with the news of our child while we listen to the human music.
Grinning, I lean down and press another kiss to her lips, too excited to take my leave. Her confusion grazes me through the bond, and I force myself to pull away less she gets an idea of what’s going on.
As exciting as this is, it will force me to speed up my timeline to announce her as my mate. If I’m lucky my Beast will let me put it off for a couple more months. Although given his current anxiety I doubt that I’ll last that long.
Straightening back up, I squeeze her hand and turn to leave, needing some time to clear my head and figure out what precisely next steps will look like.
“Heloix, wait.” Adeline shouts, her voice a timid tone that I haven’t heard in a long time. I turn back around to face her, frowning as I take in her nervous posture.
She wrings her hands together, an anxious gesture that has me worried. “Can you finish it tomorrow?”
Smirking, I step towards her. My mate wants me.
I know that I really should go, but instead I find myself nodding and moving back towards her. Who am I to say no to my pregnant mate?
Her arms wrap around my waist as she buries her head in my chest, warm puffs of air leaving her lips and brushing against my skin.
“Good, because I really don’t want to finish folding all this laundry by myself.”
