SILAS
I glance up and peer over the pages of my book as Alexander comes storming into the library with a loud groan. He looks enraged, his posture stiff and hands clenched into tight fists by his sides.
"Can I help you?" I tease, mildly intrigued as he stomps over to me.
What's got him in such a mood? Alex has never been much of a morning person, but this is extreme even for him.
Quirking a brow in amusement, I watch as he leans forward and rips the book out of my hand before throwing it against the wall on the opposite side of the room. Turning my head, I frown as the pages scatter and fall to the ground in a heap. That one was expensive.
Given the overwhelming scent of Gray and arousal that pours off of Alex, I'd guess that the Incubus snuck his way into his dreams again last night. Leaning back in my chair, I look over Alex with a smirk.
I can't say that I'm surprised.
He should have known better than to let Gray pick a virginal human. Gray's always been a softie, too eager to keep any females he meets happy and content. It's going to take a while before she lets him feed off of her regularly, and even longer before she allows it to happen outside of her dreams.
The Incubus is going to be hungry for a long while still, and Alex should have expected this.
"Tell me what you know." Alex orders.
I shrug, unwilling to share anything with him. I like Gray's female. She's tense and reeks of fear most of the time, but I can tell that she's going to make Gray happy in the long run. He was so excited about her enjoyment of his dreams at dinner last night, and I'll be damned if I give Alex the information he needs to justify ruining that.
Telling him that I can't see anything about her is only going to worsen his anger. He may have thought I was exaggerating when I said it at the auction house, and I've got no intentions of telling him just how serious I was. He's going to be stuck with this woman for much longer than the sixty years that Alex believes she has left in her life.
While it may not exactly impact me, the fact that Alex is bonded to Gray means that he will have a lot of issues with it. Issues that I don't want to deal with.
"You know I can't tell you anything." I respond, rising to my feet before sticking my face into his neck.
Alex holds still as I smell him. I find myself annoyed by the strong scent of Charlie's fear that is embedded in the skin there. I knew I should have escorted her back to her room.
"What did you do to her?" I question.
The laugh that bubbles up out of his chest is dark, and I struggle to hold back my snide remarks about its resemblance to the one his father used to have. As much as he claims to hate Wrath, he sure is turning more into him with each passing day.
The Alex that I met all those hundreds of years ago was determined to be different. He didn't take such enjoyment out of hurting others. The man standing in front of me now is an exact replica of Wrath, which I suppose I shouldn't be surprised about considering that he is the firstborn son.
"Alexander." I repeat when he doesn't answer.
Alex sighs, shoving me away. I take a step back but hold my ground. He's in for a rude awakening if he thinks that we are just going to let him batter her around without repercussions.
Gray and I are his only family, and as much as he likes to pretend that he doesn't need us, I know that he would be crushed if we left him. Hurting her will cause Gray to do precisely that and, as much as I love Alex, I'm uninterested in sticking around such a vengeful man.
"Oh, fuck off." He snaps. I watch through narrowed eyes as he drops his gaze to the floor and runs a hand through his hair. A guilty action of a guilty man. "I didn't hurt her."
I scoff.
"Yeah, would she say the same thing if I asked?" I argue.
The muscle in Alex's jaw jumps as I say this. It's clear by his expression that he regrets whatever he did to her, but I'm not going to let him off easy. She's fragile, and he can't just brush his actions under the rug.
"I told her that she needs to fuck Gray or I'm going to send her to an Incubi den." He admits. "We both know that Gray isn't going to fall for it, though."
I close my eyes and shake my head as I try my best to rein in my anger. Being around these two is making me feel more like a parent than a friend. I don't know what's going on between Alex and Gray lately, but whatever it is, they need to sort that shit out.
After spending so long together, we tend to go through phases where things are tense and uncomfortable, but this is getting out of hand.
"Gray is going to be upset when he learns this." I warn him.
Alex shrugs, his mask of indifference returning.
"I don't care. He shouldn't have fed off of me then." He argues, earning a sigh from me.
I resist the urge to reach forward and strangle him. At the end of the day, Charlie is nothing more than a small, weak human female. He acts as if he genuinely thought that she would come in and fix things for him on day one.
It's his own stupidity that's gotten him to the point of anger. If he didn't have such high expectations, then he wouldn't be this let down right now.
"You know that threatening Gray's female is only going to make him retaliate." I point out.
"Maybe, but it will sure keep her the fuck away from me."
The sudden hostility doesn't go unnoticed by me, and I let out a slight smirk at how unhinged he's becoming. Does Alex have a little crush? The thought alone has me holding back laughter.
I knew that Grey purposefully chose a female Alex was attracted to, but didn't anticipate that she would have him frazzled so quickly. I mean, fuck, she's only been here for one day.
Alex's frown deepens as he watches my attempts to hide my laughter.
"Contrary to popular belief, being mean to a woman isn't a good way to express your soft emotions towards her." I tease. "I would recommend apologizing."
I sit back down in my chair as Alex turns and storms out of the room. Fucking idiot. He'll figure it out eventually.

I just reread this bonus chapter. So freaking good. Love how Invicta gives us so many clues into the psyche and motivations of the various characters.
Silas is the only adult in the room - thank goodness for him and I just love his POVs. Alex needs a good lady in his life so he avoids becoming his dad. Wonder who that could be?!!
