AZIEL
I sit up with a gasp as the Incubus rips the sheets from my body. He looks panicked as he scans my bed, his head shaking in denial.
"Charlie's not in here with you?" He whispers, yanking the covers clean off my bed.
My muscles tense, gearing up for a fight as I spin around in search of her. Why would she be in here with me? My brain feels slow as I fight to figure out what's going on, my confusion growing as Gray lets out a noise of distress.
It takes me only a second longer to jump from bed and shift. I don't bother dressing as I head to Shay's chateau in Lust. If Charlie's gone, that bitch has something to do with it. My assumptions are proven correct as I find myself standing behind her in her bedroom.
She scrambles to shove clothing in her suitcase, her panicked actions only confirming that she's guilty. I watch the hair on the backs of her arms rise as she senses my presence. Her body stills as I approach, barely able to control my Wrath as I wind my hand through her hair and throw her to the ground.
I shift us both the second my body comes in contact with hers, and watch as she lands in a heap on the ground of my foyer.
The scream that tears from her lips only excites my Wrath, and I watch as she clutches her head in pain and scrambles to face me.
"Where is she?"
Gray comes scurrying in just as Silas appears with her son. My lips curl into a cruel smile as I watch her stare at him in horror, her agony just beginning. She tried so hard to keep him hidden, and I'll most enjoy making her watch me gut him.
Silas stabs the boy and demands she say where Charlie is, and twists the knife in his gut when she responds with a vague answer. Her precious baby is young, only in his twenty-eighth year, and will die easily.
Tears stream down her cheeks as she claims that Charlie reached out to her and chose to stay in Greed, but I struggle to focus as Gray pummels his body into mine and forces his scent all over me.
I try to fight him at first, not wanting the distraction he brings, but find after a moment I'm able to think clearer with his smell in my nose.
My worry for Charlie grows as I run my hand down Gray's spine, and I use my renewed calmness to try and think of all the places Shay could have taken Charlie to. I don't think she'd kill my female, but I wouldn't put it past her to leave her somewhere dangerous and painful.
Shay continues to promise that Charlie's with Greed, her insistence causing Silas to toss the boy to Gray and shift away.
I already know he's going to come back empty-handed, and step away from Gray as he sinks Silas's knife into the boy's lungs. My chest expands as I listen to him cry, my Wrath excited by the noise. It wants me to tear off his limbs and feed them to Shay, but I resist in fear of scaring my Incubus.
He doesn't like the extreme violence, and the last thing I want is to give him nightmares again.
"You know, I could tell she never truly loved you." Shay sneers to Gray. "A female worthy of ruling at your side would have never betrayed you."
I clench my jaw, refusing to believe her words. Charlie might choose to betray me, but she would never do that to Gray and Silas. I've seen the way she looks at them, the way her oversized eyes light up whenever they look at her.
Shay probably fucking took her to Greed and left her there.
"A female worthy of ruling at our side will have a mind of her own." I respond, wanting to nip Shay's attempt to turn Gray against Charlie in the bud.
I love Gray, but the man's almost as impulsive as Charlie, and the last thing I need is to spend the night hunting him down while he bops from brothel to brothel trying to fuck his sorrows away.
Although maybe he won't resort to those measures now that he and Silas are together. I'd like him to find comfort in us rather than some random whore.
Besides, the statement is true. A female who blindly trusts us isn't one that would serve us best. Despite Charlie's lack of physical strength, that is one thing she has. The woman is unafraid to tell us when she thinks we're wrong, and when we don't want to listen she finds her ways to persuade us.
I suck in my cheeks at the memory of her wrapping her arms around my waist to force me to speak to Shay. She's cunning, and when we get her back I'm going to chain her to me.
Gray twists the blade in the boy's abdomen as I step forward and place my foot on Shay's throat. She gasps and grabs my ankle, but is smart enough not to try and pry me away. Cutting off her oxygen is the minimum my Wrath will settle for right now.
"You better hope Silas returns shortly with Charlie in his arms. Otherwise, I'm going to crush your trachea."
