Also, I never quite get over the raw terror of having just a few thou of clearance on an operation. I know the answer is 90% experience and trust in your machine and skills and 10% terrifying every time, but it was one of my biggest problems in actual chip-making.

Thats a thought. I've done custom fixtures for a lot of my corner rounding operations in the past that end up consume a decent hunk of aluminum. Not really practical either. But neither is this whole build haha

You know, using a single point tool to open a hole to diameter is boring. Now, peening a rod to hold two pieces together? That's riveting. Another wonderful week. The only constructive thing I have to say is that stub shaft you made up is brilliant.

Have you ever thought about custom making fixtures for your parts with 3d printing so you don't have to use a belt grinder? Would be fun (not really practical).
