The mimic, disguising itself as a chest, seized the moment as Frieren's fingers brushed its lid. With a flicker of dark humor, it sprang to life, its tongue unfurling like a grotesque carpet, forcing its way into her mouth. The spell woven into its being activated, and Frieren's body began to expand with an eerie rhythm, her form growing with each pulse of the mimic's magical breath.
Fern, ever the vigilant apprentice, watched the spectacle unfold, her eyes narrowing not in concern, but in a pout of envy. The air filled with the sounds of stretching fabric and Frieren’s growing silhouette. With a sigh that betrayed a cocktail of frustration and envy, Fern prodded her inflated master with her staff, the poke yielding a resonant ‘boop’ from Frieren’s breast, now a monument to the mimic’s peculiar enchantment.
"You could have shared some of that size, Master," Fern muttered under her breath, her pout deepening. "Now look at you, all... big and floaty."
Frieren, her words distorted by her inflated cheeks and the intruding mimic-tongue, tried to maintain her composure. Even in her ballooned state, her mind ticked away, considering the utility of such a spell. Perhaps this mimic, with its unique enchantment, could be more than just a trap. It could be an asset, a novel addition to her magical collection.
"I shall keep this... peculiar creature," Frieren decided once the mimic retreated, her voice an octave higher than usual. "Its talents might prove... expansive."
Fern huffed, still poking her master's enlarged form, her feelings a tangled mess of annoyance and the begrudging acknowledgement that Frieren always found a way to turn misfortune into opportunity.
