With special guest Lydia Smith! Matt explains why only lawyers can truly destroy the rule of law before Lydia reviews what Project 2025 has planned for the Department of Justice. We then consider Donald Trump’s intention to make his favorite Florida (Congress)man our next Attorney General without or without Senate approval. Who is America’s Worst Matt, and could this weird loser really be the angel of Trump’s retribution?

+100 to everything Thomas said about the Gaetz nomination being genuine. But also you have to think Mike Johnson was championing the idea too since he can get a wildcard out of his caucus but is assured a rock solid fascist replacement from Gaetz's district.

great point! was focused on lawyers obviously but you really can't overstate how thoroughly (and how quickly) they co-opted civil society

I would just like to add that not only all judges, but all public officials whatsoever were required to swear the oath to the Führer. That included all the teachers, professors and tutorial staff in public institutions at all levels, since they were classed as civil servants. It also included all officials of the Post Office, which at that time was responsible not only for letters and packages, but for telecommunications (telephone, telegraph, and broadcasting) plus a high percentage of all personal savings accounts in the country. Confidentiality of "private" communications had already been suspended by this time; the government could listen in on phone calls, open letters, etc. with no limits.

I’m so glad Thomas got a “that’s my Matt” in.

It's not a happy ending, but it is a heroic one. Gauger joined the resistance and lived on the run until he was sent to Buchenwald and later executed. I really should have mentioned that part! I want to talk about heroes of resistance lawyering as much as I can, I'm sure he'll be coming up again

Indeed; beyond the theme of predators all being in charge, the blatant idolization of the “give me more; it’s all mine. He who dies with the most toys wins” ethos, she may be akin to the procurer for Epstein. Gizlaine Maxwell, was it? The message that the only value of women or the path to power for women is through the men in their life. Or by keeping to the shadows and/or enabling the pumping of themselves & their children by the men in power.
Lydia Smith
Considering Linda is on the transition team and likely to get something with the Administration, it's probably on deck.

This is a big deal, IMO. Any that do stand against this horrifically extralegal regime are in direct peril physically as well as professionally. Doesn’t excuse the senate if they don’t refuse to act before the incoming administration is in compliance with transition and other laws.

What’s the over/under for DOJ dropping the “Mr. McMahon” of WWF/WWE/TKO fame investigations? Pre-Inauguration or do they wait for the new admin to force the issue?

Great episode! But you left us hanging... What happened to the "unsung hero" Martin Gauger after he refused to take the oath in Germany??
