Ahh, that makes a lot of sense. 👀 No wonder he's a match for Serie. He's just like Frieren and Serie, fr fr. Only difference is that he has the opposite problem, he's too focused instead of taking it easy because his lifespan isn't as long as theirs. He's gonna need to learn to appreciate the Present at some point, or he'll be filled with regrets like they are and only reminisce of them in grief.

True I didn't show enough scenes of her and others in the orphanage. From my side, it's mainly to get to the interesting or cool bits of the story. But from the character side, it's to show how callous Trenn is about his relationships. He's constantly thinking about his training and what cool life/adventures he'll have when he finally gets his two spells that he treats everything else as a stepping stone, as unnecessary or as an obstacle. He's so driven about his future prize that he doesn't doesn't see what he has in the presence or appreciate it. It's why he's so baffled when almost all the orphanage came to say goodbye when he doesn't think he was that important or that close to anyone. He already dismissed them from his mind long ago, so why didn't they do the same. He doesn't realize the impact his presence had, or how him just being around to some people ended up helping them, that his life made a difference to some of these people, that he could be seen as important to them.

Well that, AND the indoctrination. Considering even Frieren was on the "To-Kill" list if I recall correctly. Would pull out all the stops for drama and make it really gut-wrenching, fr fr. Only thing that can make it better would be if she had more scenes to actually make it more impactful sprinkled throughout the story. Such a shame they were so young, not enough potential for such scenes unless she had a super powerful Future Sight where she'd do little things here and there that didnt initally get much attention from Trenn at those times but inevitably remembers them later when relevant and helpful.

Rein/Routine: You weren't there! You left me to die! Yeah, that can be gut-wrenching.

Fair enough on the dilemma. Both can be quite the interesting plots, even if one feels a bit more interesting than the other, personally. Since you can milk it more and cook it, as well as the drama, to perfection. But I'll let you cook on both to see what you decide down the line, so it'll be a surprise. :D (edit: antagonist Rein/Routine down the line? HMMMM)

I genuinely don't know. On one hand I kinda want her to die so she ends up as Trenn's tragic backstory. This would be due to Minus's signature spell is where she literally steals a magic spell/ability/inherited trait from someone else's mana, and she wanted Rein's future sight when she discovered her. ...On the other hand, having Rein be actually Routine grown up, is a pretty interesting route to bring her back, not gonna lie.

Deathknight134

So did you find out if you'll have Rein become Routine? I know Routine is said to have been from the empire in the north, but nothing says she can't have been transferred to the empire soon after Trenn left and given a new identity, especially if she has "a lot of potential." >:v

Rein means "pure" in German, to allude to her being pure hearted.

Holy shit, I really need to catch up on the latest chapters. I might go with that. Maybe.

Deathknight134

Is Rein an acronym for Routine? Is she gonna be a Shadow Warrior?

Deathknight134

I'm guessing Rein can see, or feel, the future, and by the time Trenn comes back, the village be torched to the ground and her dead. Shame Rein didn't try to tag-a-long with him at all. A partner you can trust woulda been cool. Childhood friend turned party member trope. Tho seems like itll be one of the darker tropes this time around.
