The algorithm is insanely complex. To share between five people it can take more cuts than the number of atoms in the universe. Known as The Cake-Cutting Problem, it’s famous in the branch of computer science called Fair Division, which explores algorithms that achieve mathematical fairness. So if you were never good at sharing, don’t feel bad. Turns out sharing is mathematically difficult.
