PWG is closing, and what that means.
🕑 Added 2025-06-09 21:21:32 +0000 UTCAs I'm sure you're seeing from a few other folks, it pains me to have to make a post about this because as it stands, there really isn't a decent alternative out there to PWG. Copy Pasting from their announcement, and tweaking things as needed. For all the folks that skim announcements;
For all the folks that usually skim announcements:
PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS ONE IT'S IMPORTANT
The Printed Wargames website is in the process of being shut down. Things just weren't profitable for them to keep the shutters open. Digital storefronts for sales of my individual models will be turned off on July 1st. Patreon fulfillment through PWG is still available, and I will let you know if that changes.
Please make sure to download any files you have purchased from them, if you have not done so already.
I have been looking into options in the background to move my monthly Patreon fulfillment to a bespoke site, however that has got me coming to the conclusion that I'm probably going to need to contract out a web dev. I'll go over this in another post after this one.
If you have any questions feel free to contact PWG admin at admin@printedwargames.com or get updates on the Printed Wargames Discord server.
TL:DR Patreon monthly rewards on PWG will remain, any changes and I will let you know., Make sure to download anything you have bought if you have not already, I would suggest you also include Patreon rewards too.
I am looking more into the idea of getting a bespoke website set up as a storefront and patreon distribution. Until then I have to figure some things out in the interim.
You don't currently need to do anything except make sure you have downloaded your files.
Do not recommend MMF as an alternate, you all should know how I feel about them, even if they are becoming more and more likely a thing I might have to begrudgingly use.

I have found that if I go to the shop and select Partner: Pipermakes, it will show me a green download button for all the models that I own. I have had no issues downloading things this way.

Man I picked a shitty time to subscribe

Weeks later and I still can't access my downloads page :( Hope it clears up soon so I can get them downloaded.

maybe the tiny legend model would work for you? they send me my files in a private message on here, and then have a discount code when i go onto there separate website, which are sent via email

The traffic the site is experiencing right now currently is basically akin to a DDoS attack xD The download side of things will be open for at least 6 months, so I imagine the initial oh jeez panic will subside, and I'm looking to get the download all button onto all of my filesets, but I can't actually get into the edit page myself to actually test and see if it'll work x'D

So the downloads will definitely be available for six months? Because as others have said, the downloads there are SO SLOW it'll probably take me that long to download everything!

Glad to hear you're looking at your own site as an option (and/or MMF, despite their scummy business practices :\ ) Downloaded from PWG is always excruciatingly tedious and unnecessarily slow, it's genuinely horrible... and reading some comments it seems I'm not alone there.

The idea, is to have the same or a similar kind of integration through Patreon's API. Even if I end up on mmf I'll be able to pull that info over~ I just don't have much of a timeline for that in place yet. ~Pipes

For the past few weeks I've been having issues even being able to log into PWG, is there a way for you to see what models I have purchased to be able to redownload them on whatever service you move to?
John Pfeifer
No thanks; Gumroad wants me to keep doing capchas to download my files.
FlyinCaveman
I see lots of folks using Gumroad. I dont know they're reputation or your opinions on them. But thats the only alternative I know of besides MMF

From a customer side of things they're serviceable, but from a makers side of things, it's useless broken feature after useless broken feature, constantly trying to force you as an artist into their ecosystem entirely, making everything outside of it miserable to use/integrate, on top of all the previous ways they've mucked over other artist friend of mine, and the constant stream of shit talking I hear about them from the various artist discords I'm in. It has been, and always will be a hard sell for me. That said, it's actually pushing me to reach out to a handful of different site devs with the intent of just, making a site for me. Not relying on another service has been a huge goal for me, and this is probably gonna be the thing that gets me to actually contract out a dev or similar.

I know how you feel about myminifactory, but maybe at this point it would be better to start thinking about your customers convenience? Hopping from one hosting site to another where things might keep been half working is not the best business model.

whats wrong with MMF?
JEG301
My problem is PWG has such a slow download rate for the files, I have months of backdated models to download because of how slow they are and how often the website gives me an error due to the slow download
Ben Cops
Why not myminifactory? Probably that is a stupid question but isn’t everyone else there ?
CaptainKeen
Seems like a last resort, but I know of a few creators using google drive. I don't like it as much as a working hosting service, but I think it's acceptable from a user perspective so long as download links are sent out in an email instead of just posted on a patreon post that will expire. Don't much like having to worry if I've forgot to grab my files. Dunno how well all that works from a creator perspective.
Daniel Hall
Someone tell Tano at OPR they have a chance to purchase a good company site for fulfillment of models!

I have been posting the page links for the sets in every current release post and directing folks to use those links *because* the check for new downloads button was broken by an API update patreon did. If you click those links in the posts it populates them to your library as an alt to the CFND button. The download side of PWG will still be active for six months. ~Pipes.

Downloading everything from pwg is just impossible : the interface make downloading file a chore, the pages don't load, I haven't seen the last two months files in my feed and the "check new files" crash every time. I hope you can find another mean to allow us to get all our files back.
Francis Laracuente
Damn that sucks

So for whatever reason Patreon isn't letting me direct message you, but I'm the developer who wrote and runs the back-end stuff for Ben from Ritual Design. His site is set up using Shopify with some plugins for sales and subscriptions (in addition to Patreon), and Itch.io for distribution, which has been working well for him. Given you're both doing roughly the same thing, odds are a lot of the features you need will be similar, and I'd be happy to make whatever changes or other custom stuff you need. If you're interested, please feel free to message me. Thanks. :)

OH boy, this is going to suck xDDD. As possible options I'd point to maybe OneBookShelf, as they currently already host STLs, maybe checking out partnering with Fat Dragom Games, maybe Gumroad...
Cameron Karge
I know drunkmagos sells individuals directly on his patreon. Unsure how it compares but I don't think ive seen anyone else doing it.
LibertyBeta
What about doing things through Printables? Prusa are decent folks.
