After watching this when it came out and remembering that I had read a Naomi Novik book, I've just discovered weeks later that I've loved her Drarry fanfics for many, many years, and I've recently been trying not to let her Game of Thrones fics pull me into yet another fandom. Which is especially weird because I got the, this feels like fanfic vibe, from the YA book of hers I'd read, but not in a good way. Also I guess I didn't look closely the one time I read her bio and connect what "I built this city," a join date in 2008, and a user number of 8 meant. Just randomly wondered what the author name is that she alluded to in said bio, and if I'd read it 🤣

... Have a look around Anything that brain of yours can think of can be found 🎶 ----- Or, alternately, one could either imagine Will Smith punching an alien in the face (or Garnet from Steven Universe) rejoindering with "Welcome to Earth" 😁

As pointed out above by Harold Lindstrom so long as you mind the tags you should be fine which sums up most of reality. As I'm currently reading a series I failed to finish in the 80's my reason for staying off AO3 is simply time.

The general answer is that the internet is weird, and has been for a very long time. But TBH, if you get any two attractive men with even a hint of connection, then there's going to be smut about them even when it makes no sense. Also, I recently found my new favourite AO3 tag 'WOE: Unrestrained shippy nonsense be upon ye'.

Back in the day... there was *slash*. And one of the more popular slash pairings was Kirk/Spock. And most of it was written by women.

Anders

So how many incest pairings have you written?

You and ColeyDoesThings are doing some fine work on the history and culture of fanfiction 🫡

What a notification to get without seeing the body right away.

Just respect the tags, and you're pretty safe. The majority is sfw and noncontroversial, but there are some real weird rabbit holes you can find without much effort
