Mo Yan didn't miss the "eye signals" between them, but she was too preoccupied with saving people to speculate about the thoughts of this master and servant.
When Mo Yan arrived with the rescuers, Mo Qingze, who was weak and powerless after enduring hunger for many days, was being besieged by those villains, curled up on the ground without any strength to resist! The two younger ones were also restrained, watching their father being beaten, already sobbing silently.
Mo Yan's anger surged from her heart. She rushed forward in three steps and two steps. Xiao Shiyi and the others were faster than her. By the time she helped Mo Qingze up and comforted the two siblings, the battle had already ended. Those villains were securely tied up, lying on the ground whimpering, with none of their previous fierceness and arrogance!
"Many thanks to you all. If it weren't for your help, my whole family would have perished here!" Mo Yan was genuinely grateful and thanked them again solemnly.
Xiao Shiyi waved his hand, "Miss, no need for courtesy. These scoundrels have caused harm to who knows how many people. Running into us was also a way to rid the people of a calamity!"
After speaking, he looked at the weak Mo family of four and couldn't help but ask, "Are you planning to go to Yongcheng? We happened to pass by Yongcheng the day before yesterday. Many refugees have gathered there. The prefect is worried about chaos and has ordered the city gates to be closed. If the disaster isn't resolved and the crowd doesn't disperse, the city gates won't open."
What he didn't say was that the refugees gathered at the city gates were capable of doing anything to survive. He had personally witnessed more than a dozen people fighting to death over a stale cake.
Mo Qingze was taken aback. He wasn't just a bookish scholar who only knew how to read the classics. He could guess the situation in Yongcheng to some extent. However, if they didn't go to Yongcheng, where else could they go?
Mo Yan was also somewhat surprised. The original owner had never traveled far from home and didn't know how large the territory of Chu was. She only knew that her father said they were going to Yongcheng, so she followed along, knowing nothing else. And as a newcomer, she was even less aware of whether there were other places to go.
As for having the space and being able to return home, she hadn't thought about it. Now with the marauders and the court in fierce conflict, returning home would probably put her life in danger.
The atmosphere fell silent for a moment as everyone pondered.
Xiao Shiyi looked at the pensive father and daughter and also realized that they couldn't think of a good place to go for the time being, so he suggested, "You can take a detour to the capital. Although it's a bit far, it's safer under the imperial city!"
Mo Yan's eyes lit up at the idea of going to the capital. Although many refugees had also flooded into the capital, although refugees were not allowed into the city, the current emperor was benevolent and had ordered the construction of temporary shelters outside the city to accommodate refugees. There was also a porridge shed that distributed porridge daily. Although it wasn't filling, it would prevent starvation.
Mo Qingze pondered for a moment and was also somewhat swayed by the suggestion. However, the distance from here to the capital was too far. With just their legs, they wouldn't be able to make it in over a month. He was more worried about encountering incidents like today's rather than not finding anything to eat along the way.
Seeing Mo Qingze silent, Xiao Shiyi guessed his concerns and didn't continue to persuade him. If they were just passing by, he could ask his master for a favor and take this family to the capital. But they were currently on a mission to suppress rebellion in the south on imperial orders...
In the end, Mo Qingze didn't make up his mind, but he accepted Xiao Shiyi's goodwill and thanked him again.
With the master still waiting, Xiao Shiyi didn't linger for long. He took out a token and stuffed it into Mo Qingze's hand without saying a word, then hastily left with the other five men who had captured the evildoers.
Watching Xiao Shiyi and the others leave, Mo Yan looked at the small pass token in Mo Qingze's hand and couldn't help feeling warm in her heart. There were still many good people in the world! She also silently vowed in her heart: If given the chance, she would repay this life-saving grace.
She didn't like owing favors. Once indebted, the price to pay in the future might be unbearable. This was also the main reason why she didn't walk away after crossing over into the original owner's body but decided to take care of the original owner's family.
And this little episode didn't leave too deep a mark on either side. Naturally, they didn't know that they would have such deep ties in the future...
