The old woman already liked Mo Yan, so when she saw her crying, she quickly comforted her, "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid. Grandma has the pass with her. Wait a moment, Grandma will tell them you're my granddaughter, and they'll let you in!"
"Really? Thank you so much, Grandma, but will they really let me in?" Mo Yan asked hesitantly.
Before the old woman could speak, the other women chimed in, "Of course they will, we can all testify!"
Mo Yan expressed her gratitude repeatedly, but in her heart, she silently apologized to them. She really didn't want to deceive these kind-hearted people.
Sure enough, with everyone's help, Mo Yan successfully evaded the scrutiny of the yamen runners and entered Longshi Town smoothly.
Following the old woman, Mo Yan arrived at the bustling market.
The stalls in the market were not fixed. Whoever arrived first could occupy the best position. Since Mo Yan and the others arrived relatively early, there were not many stalls on the street. They chose a spacious place and laid out their goods.
After arranging the items neatly, Mo Yan helped the old woman arrange the pears while observing what others were selling. She found that most people were selling vegetables, chicken, duck, and fish, which were common in her previous life. However, she didn't see many fruits. There were a few selling pears and peaches, but she didn't see the most common apples.
As she was looking around, the old woman beside her smiled and said, "How did you grow these vegetables? The corn is so big and colorful, it looks great!"
Of course! Products from the space are top-notch!
Mo Yan felt proud in her heart but didn't show it on her face. "Maybe we used a lot of fertilizer, that's why they grew so well. We rely on these to exchange for salt and oil at home!"
The old woman was puzzled. Her old man was a good hand at farming, and he didn't slack off in watering and fertilizing, so why weren't their crops as good?
As the sun slowly rose, more and more people crowded the market, and the sounds of bargaining filled the air. It was Mo Yan's first time selling vegetables in both lives, and she felt tongue-tied, just standing there foolishly watching others buy and sell.
A well-dressed woman passed by Mo Yan's stall and saw the large, brightly colored tomatoes compared to those sold by other vendors. Her eyes lit up, and she pointed to the tomatoes and asked, "Miss, how much for these?"
Mo Yan didn't directly quote a price but instead picked up a tomato, broke it in half, and handed it over. "Sister, taste it first. No need to pay!"
The woman took it with suspicion and took a bite. The crunchy texture and sweet and sour taste made her unable to help but eat a few more bites. Soon, half of the tomato was in her stomach. She licked her lips and said happily, "Miss, give me five jin."
"Okay!"
Mo Yan didn't have a scale, so she begged the old woman with a scale to help her.
Since the tomatoes were large, nine of them were enough for five jin. As Mo Yan put the tomatoes into the woman's basket, she said, "Sister, here are your tomatoes. Three wen per jin, a total of fifteen wen."
The woman was taking out money from her purse when she heard it would cost fifteen wen and became a little unhappy. "Other people's tomatoes are only two wen per jin, why do you want three wen? It's too expensive!"
Mo Yan didn't get upset when she heard this. "Sister, you tasted them just now. How does the taste of my tomatoes compare to others?"
The woman couldn't say anything when she heard this. After all, the taste of the tomatoes was really good, and she felt embarrassed to deny it.
In the end, Mo Yan gave the woman two green and shiny big cabbages, and the woman felt like she had picked up a big bargain and immediately paid the money happily.
Counting the fifteen wen she earned for the first time in this life, Mo Yan smiled with satisfaction...
