The two rooms had two beds each. Mo Yan and Mo Xin slept in the smaller room, while Mo Qingze and Mo Zhen slept in the other. Even though there were no blankets on the beds, it was much better than sleeping on the ground. On their first night in their new home, they all slept soundly.
When Mo Yan woke up, Mo Qingze had already prepared breakfast.
After breakfast, Mo Yan opened her small bag and carefully counted all the silver coins she had left. She found that there was only a little over four taels left. Money was indeed easy to spend. They had already spent two taels on rent and deposit yesterday.
Mo Yan wasn't worried about the money. What was most important now was upgrading her space. Once the space was upgraded, not only would the area expand several times, but it would also nurture a spiritual spring that could stimulate the growth of all things. Moreover, she would be able to materialize objects with her mind without having to enter the space, which would be very convenient.
However, upgrading the space was not easy. It required meeting two conditions: ample spiritual energy and the transparent bead in the space being filled with red lines. Spiritual energy was not difficult to come by; she just needed to keep planting crops. But the red lines were much harder. By helping the Li family before, two red lines had appeared on the bead. In reality, to fill the entire bead, she would need to help at least a hundred people.
However, this couldn't be rushed. After thinking for a while, Mo Yan pushed the thought aside. She pocketed all her belongings, dragged her father and siblings out onto the street, and embarked on her first crazy shopping spree in this new world.
First, they bought quilts. Two beds required four quilts. Mo Yan thought that one tael of silver would be more than enough. But unexpectedly, cotton production here was low, and prices had always been high. A quilt made from recycled cotton cost three hundred and fifty wen, while a new one cost five hundred wen.
Mo Qingze didn't know how much money his daughter had, so when he heard how expensive they were, he instinctively said, "Yan'er, let's wait until I earn more money before buying."
Mo Yan also felt distressed, but the beginning of autumn was approaching soon. They would still need to buy them, as the nights would become colder. So she gritted her teeth and said, "Let's just buy them now. Xin'er and Zhen'er are still young. They'll catch a cold at night without blankets."
The shop assistant who was serving them kindly added, "Buying now is a good deal. In another half month, the prices will be even higher when the weather cools down."
After hearing her daughter and the assistant's words, Mo Qingze couldn't bring himself to refuse. He just felt even more guilty as a father. How could he, as a father, let his daughter work hard for money even to buy blankets?
Mo Yan didn't notice her father's expression. After bargaining with the shop assistant, she finally bought four quilts: two new ones and two recycled ones. The new ones would be used as blankets, while the recycled ones would be spread on the beds. It cost her one tael of silver and six hundred wen.
The quilts were too bulky to carry, but since they spent more than one tael of silver, the shop assistant offered to deliver the goods to their home. Mo Yan didn't expect such considerate service from ancient businesses. After leaving their address, the family went to the fabric shop next.
Their clothes were pitifully few, only two sets to change every season, and they were all patched up.
Mo Yan didn't mind wearing such clothes, but wearing them poorly might invite disdain from others, especially for the two younger ones who were still growing, both physically and mentally. She didn't want them to feel inferior because of those strange gazes.
She bought two types of fabric, one soft and breathable cotton and the other durable linen. She planned to use the cotton to make innerwear and the linen for outerwear. They bought one bolt of each fabric, costing eight hundred wen. The original owner was skilled in sewing, and Mo Yan inherited her memories, so she should have no problem making clothes.
After that, they went to the rice shop, grocery store, and bought some rice, flour, pots, bowls, and other necessities. They also bought miscellaneous items they needed and finally went to the vegetable market to buy meat before heading home.
Meat was indeed expensive in the capital. Good pork belly cost twenty-five wen per jin, while it only cost twenty wen per jin in Longshi Town.
Mo Yan clicked her tongue and calculated the remaining silver coins. She spent fifty wen on two jin of good meat for braising and another five wen on some cheap bones for soup.
Thinking about the delicious bone soup and braised pork, she couldn't help but salivate.
Mo Qingze walked behind them, carrying a pile of things and watching his daughter's figure. He felt a bit uneasy. His daughter spent money like water, but he had no idea where all this money came from. He trusted his daughter wouldn't do anything wrong, but he couldn't help but worry.
Mo Yan, happily munching on her candied fruit, had no idea about her father's dilemma. She was busy enjoying the sights of the quaint market and keeping an eye on her two curious siblings, lest they get lost.
Back home, Mo Yan busied herself arranging the bought items and then went into the kitchen to prepare lunch.
In her previous life, her family was well-off, and her three older brothers managed the family business. She didn't need to worry about anything, focusing on managing her space or engaging in charity work to help those in need. The remaining time was spent studying recipes.
Over the years, she had learned to cook almost all famous dishes, from famous dishes passed down through generations to local specialties found in every corner. While her cooking skills might not rival those of five-star hotel chefs, anyone who tasted her dishes would say they were delicious.
The conditions during their escape were limited, and she didn't have the opportunity to showcase her cooking skills. Now that they had settled down, she couldn't help but want to treat herself to something delicious.
Mo Yan cooked three dishes: braised pork, garlic stir-fried vegetables, and salt and pepper corn. The bone soup was still not ready, so they would have it for dinner. She had wanted to grab a chicken from the space to make some braised chicken, but since they had been buying things in front of her family, she couldn't just conjure a chicken out of thin air.
The chickens in the space were the twenty chicks she had bought in Longshi Town. Time passed faster in the space than outside. It had only been half a month outside, but inside, it had been five months. Just two days ago, those hens had started laying eggs, and she could collect quite a few eggs every time she went in.
However, these chickens also caused her some trouble. The cabbage and rice in the space had suffered a lot. There was no way she could tie up the chickens, so she could only let them roam freely.
As the dishes were served, Xin and Zhen, who had already smelled the aroma, eagerly crowded around. But due to their good manners
, they didn't start eating until their father had served himself. Then they began to eat with their chopsticks.
"Wow, it's so delicious! Big sister, you have to taste it. This braised pork is amazing!" Zhen exclaimed after taking a bite of the meat.
Xin also looked at her sister in amazement, rare for her not to refute her silly brother. Because she also felt that her sister's cooking now was much tastier than before.
Although Mo Qingze didn't say anything, his gaze at his daughter revealed his satisfaction. A woman skilled in cooking would be a great advantage in the future when talking about marriage.
Mo Yan, who was being praised, smiled somewhat smugly, completely unaware of her father's thoughts. If she knew, she would definitely be annoyed. She was only thirteen years old, and marriage was too far away! When the time came, she definitely wouldn't admit to pretending to be naive!
