Great show - I think the UK scooter thing is probably not due to electrical fire safety (above ground), there's just no protection against poor use. A great many users ignore traffic rules, pedestrian rules and everything in the middle - I live far from London (around 30-40miles) so I don't get affected at all, but I do see a few people on them and they appear to think they're above all rules. Mind you, a friend has one and I had a go, it was far more stable than I thought! However below ground in the underground tubes, we've ummm, had some bad experiences with fire and death down there, so I guess it's understandable from that aspect.
Just chiming in India has had a semi-conductor industry a government run one at that and they've produced ARM chips for the BBC Miro
