+1 for the tulips. I also planted some. I’m convinced they won’t make it through the winter, but my gardener insists they will. I suppose he knows best. Apparently snow will insulate them from the cold or something.

Awesome, I was going to suggest persimmon as well. I like the Ichi-Ki-Kei-Jiro variety.

I have two pawpaws I planted back in the woods! I'm hoping to get some more eventually. In the spring I'll be getting 10 native persimmon trees as well. Not sure about setting up an apiary, might consider chickens first.

Try planting perennial mints around the raised beds, they mask the scent of tasty plants like brussel sprouts, though you do have to weed the mints when they start to spread.
