You should let him keep going for a while longer when he starts going down one of those meaningless yet glorious tangents. that is what makes Rick so great. That prank call was great!! I never would've guessed you used to do that. Have you ever checked out the Phone Losers of America? They're my other favorite content creators on YouTube - they've been active in the pranking/phreaking community since the early 90s. Regarding the question, "How could Jenny Jones exploit these people?" The shortest (and likeliest) answer is that the guests (and likely some of the audience) are paid actors. I can't prove that JJ utilized actors, but many of the other contemporary shows which followed the same format did. Annapolis native Jimi Haha, frontman of 90's national recording act Jimmie's Chicken Shack, was paid to appear as various "characters" on Jerry Springer multiple times. He's talked about it in the past, and there are even video clips on YouTube.

I worked second shift back in the 90’s and when I got home and turned on the TV, Jenny Jones would be on at 1:00 am. It was so controversial the local stations wouldn’t air it during the typical weekday morning talk show time slots.

Great episode! Regarding shows like Jenny Jones, I never knew which was worse: the host who was willing to put her name on such garbage; the producers and show runners who dream up the crap in the first place; the guests who make their faux-tragic lives public for the sake of 15 minutes of fame; or the audience entertained by such exploitation pretending to be reality TV. It's really just all so bad that it boggles the mind.
